Well for those that saw my http://forums.bowhunting.com/bowhunting-talk/67674-va-trip-update-stand.html post you know the 18days up in VA were well spent and there was tons of action! It was an awesome trip full of excitement and firsts, and luckily i got it all on film. I was lucky enough to take 1 good buck, who failed to read the script correctly and came in after camera light, and 2 does. I had a ton of encounters with great bucks and was unable to get shots at 2 that literally walked to the base of my tree and then away without offering any kind of ethical shot. It was frustrating to say the least, especially both bucks wouldve been my biggest to date and were definitely P&Y quality, but clean kill or no kill, and theyll just be that much bigger next year. I learned a big time lesson on this trip as well....Once all setup and comfortable in your stand double check you HHA dial and make sure it is in fact turned to 25yds where you normally keep it, and not set to 45yds still from your earlier practice session. I failed to do this, so i had a really nice 7pt work his way in to 22yds, i drew, settled my pin squeezed off my release, and thought "dead deer"......until i saw my arrow sail a foot over his back. Confused i looked down and saw the dial still pointing at 45yds....the best part was i got my reaction from this observation all on film hahaha. Sometimes all you can do is laugh at your own boneheadedness. All in all it was a great trip home to hunt with family, and i was able to provide ample meat for my family back home in FL. Here are some pics of the deer i killed and my face after noticing my error and missing that 7pt. haha. enjoy. Keep an eye out for the VA episode on my YouTube channel and Facebook page! Video is up! Hey Brother thats some nice VA deer. Looking forward to the video. Where you up there on family land or with an outfitter?
Very Cool. Can't wait for the video version. I know what you mean about the site. I've ruined a few arrows practicing and having it on the wrong distance because a previous practise secession. Now I'll actually set my site at 25yds before I pack it to go hunting. Kilboars Hunt Club
Up in the mountains we were on national forest land. Once we got back east of the blue ridge it was all private land my step brother has access to. This year has been an absolute blessing and is my best season thus far, and I still have a Bama trip planned for February!
