How high up in a tree are you normally while bow hunting?

I'm curious about this as well. I would think 15' would be the minimum height I'd wanna be to avoid being seen.

I'm looking at a ladder stand for my first stand purchase so I will be about 14-15' up

Depends on the situation really. On average, my platform is 20' up, level with the top of my 20' stick ladder. My lowest set is at 15' because it has a lot of background cover and the prevailing wind takes my scent away from approaching deer so there's no need to go higher. My highest set is almost 30' because it's in a valley. The deer that approach that set would be eye level with me if I were lower than 25' and there's a better chance my scent will get taken up with the thermals at that height at that particular location.

Have zero sets under 20, only 1 under 24, rest are between 26 & 31. There is one tree that will have a set at about 18ft...it's the highest I can go and hunt that spot....so that'll be it.

Is that just preference or due to the terrain?

I'm anywhere from 9 to 18' depending on the stand I'm in. Cover dictates some of the lower stands, the others are dictated by the only tree allowable for a stand.

Doesn't matter how high or low you are, if you have adequate cover they won't see you. My only bow kill from the ground I was behind a 4' diameter tree and they had no clue I was there until the arrow passed through one of them.

Play the wind right and use cover appropriately and height doesn't matter

At least 20ft. I had to add a section on to my 20ft pull up rope.

My ladders are all 21' at the platform. I will not go higher because I will not sit in a tree that the trunk is not wider than my profile.

More to do with scent streams and scent reduction. The higher I am there are times under very predictable winds where I can have deer walk downwind of me inside of 30/40 yards due to my scent stream is flowing well above their noses. Obviously this is not something I practice at all times and winds must still be a factor in the equation they are less for me than others.

Two set ups it's not just the scent it is due to terrain, sloping hillsides or bottom of hill.

Also ever since elevating our stands higher I've been busted far less....there are times where you stick out but stand choice and possibly adding cover to the stand (limbs attached to tree around stand) are needed to fight backdrop issues just like any other stand choices others make from any height.

Vary from ground level to 20' and everything in between.

Mine are about 18 to 20 feet off the ground, but I will hunt lower.

I've killed deer from 8' to 30' up.

All depends on the tree, situation, and most importantly, your comfort level.

All my ladder stands and tower stands are 15'. In a climber I usually stop around 20'. I see no reason to be any higher.

16'-20' for me. I haven't ground hunted with a bow in years but I plan on adding that back to my arsenal this year.

On the public land I hunt, you have to hunt high! These deer are VERY hip to strange objects in trees! I don't hunt lower than 20' and sometimes I'll go as high as 30', depending on the layout.
