We are looking for comfortable but affordable tree stands for next season. I ran across the Guide Gear Extreme Comfort stands. I was curious if anyone has used one of these. For the price, I want to make sure that they are a safe tree stand. (I found them in a Sportman's Guide catalog). Thanks in advance!
We have (3) of the Deluxe Fixed Tree Stands and love them. Have had them up for 3 years now and the only thing I can say is the bolts have rusted quite a bit and will need replaced this next season. Other than that we remove the seats every time we are done hunting for a spell and re-install them each time. Very comfortable for all day sits.
I was just looking at those the other day. I read about half of the 100 comments on them on sportsmansguide website and most were good. You said you saw them in a catalog. I suggest you check out the user reviews on their website if you haven't done so. I want something I can feel safe falling asleep in midday for an hour or two. That chair and railing with a safety harness pulled tight looks like it would be safe. I may buy one for next year and see how it is cause some reviews said they were loud and uncomfortable. Like anything though there will be good and bad reviews you just got to look for how many bad reviews in the bunch. Last thing I want is a loud or uncomfortable stand so I'll do a test of 1 before I buy more.
Thanks! Chuck, that is one that I was looking at online. The price is not terrible at all...that's why I was questioning quality. Good to know you have a good experience! I am looking for something comfortable so I can sit longer. The ones we have no are not comfortable at all (but good enough to put in an extra spot). Woods, that's the catalog I saw them in. I brought it up online, just haven't looked at the comments yet. I'll go do that next. Thanks!
I've had a couple that I've had for a good ten years. No problems at all. I would advise you to replace the cables every three years or so. I had the cables break on one of them. After that I started being a lot more diligent about keeping an eye on them. Blessings..........Pastorjim
The stands we received were powder coated black so we hit them with grey primer mostly to help break them up as they are big. One thing we should have done on the first painting was to hit all the screws and cable ends with Rustoleum to help keep them from rusting. Just keep that in mind if you get them.
Make that 2 vote for the deluxe stands. Very comfortable and as long as you maintenance them they last. When we get them we paint everything and fill the tubes with spray foam. Like mentioned above just watch the fasteners and straps and remove seats as they aren't terribly weather resistant. We have replaced seats for next to nothing with cargo netting. The extreme comfort stand is not bad either but that seat is not the best for bowhunting and standing up quickly/quietly.
I got three from them (sportsmen ) 18 ft jumbos they are very comfortable I would not sleep in one the side rails will do little to stop you :p
Yup everyone hit it on the nose. My wife and I also use the Guide Gear Deluxe Fixed Tree stand. Can't beat it in my opinion, especially for the price
You get what you pay for. I buy their stuff but I'll rgo over it and replace their bolts and cables with stainless steel ones before I ever put them up.
Same here. Seems it's next to impossible to get cables for stands that aren't in current production. I know of a few guys who just bought heavy zinc plated chain cut to length, replaced the bolts with stainless and then rubber coated them for a variety of their stands, not necessarily this brand.
I have ordered them from Gorilla. All you have to know is the length. I think I paid somewhere around $8.00 a set for them. Blessings........Pastorjim
Paster... Curious if you leave them in the tree year-round or if you pull them down after each season?
Then I would check with Direct Outdoor Products, that's who makes the stands for Sportsmans Guide. Here is the link to their website. http://www.directoutdoorproducts.com/stand-products.html?cat=4 Blessings.........Pastorjim
Thanks for suggestions. I ordered the deluxe...got free shipping, too. So $60, can't beat that for hopefully a comfortable stand.
