Had a awesome week last week in Kansas the rut was kicking in and deer where moving very good. Got to Kansas Sunday evening the 16th about midday driving through the snow which was pretty cool. Seen some does that first evening but no bucks. Next morning seen a nice little 6pt and a spike with some does but nothing within range. Monday evening we were running a little late didnt get into the stand till almost 3pm. At about 3:25pm i seen 2 deer going into a thicket but just seen the rears so i grunted a few times and waited. Well 5mins later a doe steps out to my right at 30 yards, but no shot. About 1 minute late i see horns coming out the tall grass, right away i knew shooter!! He was to the right of me so no shot so i grunted a few more times, he came right in but he came in behind me. Now thank the good lord i was in a ground blind and was able to move completely around and get on my knees to make a shot without him seeing me move. As he pops into view again at 30 yards i draw back and as i draw my leg catches a charlie horse. I'm thinking to myself REALLY!!! haha so i'm at full draw and just suck up the pain and put the carbon element to work. Nailed in a little back but the killzone did the job. He did go a long ways about 500 yards but had good blood the entire time. He's a main frame 8pt with 2 kickers at his base so to me he's a 10pt :D. He's my first rack buck with bow, My first kansas buck, And i killed him on me and my wife's 2 anniversary. So this deer is very special to me and my wife she is excited that when i get him mounted the killed by date will be our anniversary lol.
Thanks guys..whoever said there is no deer in Kansas lied hahaha never seen so many good looking bucks in my life. Seen a few 140-145 bucks after i killed this deer. Very impressive place!!
Congrats, cut his brow tines off and glue them on a doe and that's pretty much what my first antlered deer would look like.
Great buck and great story. Congrats to you for the buck and congrats to you and your wife on the anniversary.
