I've read numerous times that XXX bow is "great for treestand hunters" because of the A2A being 30". What's your opinion on this? Treestand hunters, what is the A2A on your bow?
I've never shot anything shorter than 34", and I hunt 99% of the time from a tree stand. I can see advantages in certain situations, but for where I hunt, the setups that I'm in, I find zero need to shoot a specific ATA based solely out of hunting in a treestand. Ground blinds are a different story as there you have more clearance issues. I would rather pick the bow that shoots/holds best for me and make it work rather than pigeon hole myself into a specific set of specs that may or may not result in a bow that best fits me.
Well, I'm 6'2" and shoot a 34" without issues in the stand. Perhaps a shorter person would have a little more issue shooting the longer ATA, but I don't. The only time I could see an advantage to me would be out of a ground blind or I suppose if you are using a stand with a shooting rail that would get in the way.
I have never once been in a situation where a super short ATA would be of a benefit. Like mentioned, a blind does present some challenges, but even there, 34" for example is more than manageable. Shoot the bow you shoot best and forget the marketing BS.
I too shoot a 34" ATA bow and I don't really ever see it causing a problem. I wouldn't hesitate buying a bow with a reasonable ATA length.
I shoot a 30" ata compound, and I shoot a 62" recurve. Sure, there's a difference, but less in a stand then pretty much anywhere else. Try shooting a recurve in a blind or in thick cover! In a treestand you have the opportunity to cut limbs and trim lanes...IMHO ata doesn't matter in a treestand.
I have always shot 34"-35" ATA bows, hunting out of tree stands, and i've never had a time where i wished my bow was shorter. Love the benefits of long ATA and being 6'2" and a 31" draw, it suits me well. I'm also "that guy" that shoots a carbon bow yet weighs it down with a 12" stabilizer and a sidebar for a steadier hold and better balance. The weight and size is always worth it for me if it increases my shooting ability.
Went to a 35" ata this year and have not regretted it. It has not got in the way once. I've hunted climbers ladder stands and blinds. No issue at all. All it does is make the bow more forgiving. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have owned bows as long as 68" (longbow) and as short as 30". I have had issues with long bows on stands with a front rail but that's it. I shoot whatever bow I like, ATA is not a consideration. My last few bows have been 30-5/8", 32", 31".
I can see the advantage for those that film. I know a couple guys that have hit the camera arm with the bottom cam before. I've hunted with bows that cary from 29" ata to 36" ata. They all work for me.
You want the ATA that when the bow is set on the floor of the stand, is the most comfortable to rest your head on the top cam. Short people may need a shorter bow for them to rest their head most comfortably.
I second the above. The only place I've noticed a difference is when I'm in a blind. You wouldn't want a 40" in there. For a regular hunter, it won't matter very much what the ATA of the bow is while in a stand. A.S

Treestand no not really. Blind yes. If I hunted a lot out of a blind I would definitely have a shorter ATA bow even though I'm not a fan of them. In fact I have thought about buying an old z7x just for that.
So far for me... NO! I went to a 30" ATA this year and I think my accuracy is way down. I do however love the short bow for moving through thick brush/swampy areas... T
It all depends on what you prefer IMO. Over the last few years...I prefer a 30"-32" ATA. I use to like the longer ones until I started shooting the shorter ones. Myself, I like the shorter ones much better. My Faktor is 30" and My PSE Revenge is 29 5/8" ATA. Cams are about the same size on my Revenge as my Faktor.
