I just copied from team contest. Had this same deer 25 yards in front of me broadside Wednesday night. I had just got into stand and couldn't do anything. First day sitting all day Saturday worked out well. Luckily my dad built a blind years ago and stuck a heater in it. No other way I could have sat all day. The deer was slightly quartered away. I hit further back then I wanted. Watched him run away to end of a draw. Stop and slowly walking. I backed out. Waited 5 hours hoping he was still in draw. He wasn't. No tracking because of snow fall after I shot. Waited until morning. I walked two different draws that I thought he might have went to. Nothing. Circled back around hoping he back tracked to where he was originally. Luckily found him probably 150 yards from where I shot from. He had traveled 250 yards up draw and circled back 360 yards. The shot was better than I thought. It wasn't a passthrough. Somehow the heart was sliced twice. I know I didn't hit the heart on initial contact unless he had a weird heart that was back. Must have gotten sliced while running? I was really worried about having a bad ending. I knew he was dead, but knew he needed time because of the hit. The snow falling was killing me. I had walked for 3 hours in morning before finding. I had others ready to come out in afternoon if I couldn't find him and I'm glad to say I didn't have to. Best part was coyotes didn't get him.
