    Hey Guys,
I have been bow hunting on and off for about 10 years. I enjoy bow hunting but usually every couple of years I loose a deer. Let me start by saying, I have only killed/recovered 2 deer and one hog with the bow. I have lost/not recovered 3 deer with the bow. I have a Reflex Excursion that is suppose to shoot around 290 but I have yet to have a pass thought on any of the deer I have shot. The last two times I shot the bow I killed a Hog with a fixed 2 blade that did not go through and lost a deer with a 2 blade rage broad head. I switched to a 2 blade to try to get the arrow to exit. I have lost both deer due to shooting downward out of a tree stand. With no exit wound and the arrow angled down I am getting little to no blood trail. I get very discouraged about bow hunting when I loose quality deer. I feel all of my shots have been well placed shots. Any advise on what I may be doing wrong or may be able to change?

Arrow Setup: be sure to include... Arrow model and length and if you have any weighted inserts.

No idea on weight? Sorry but hard to give you any good advice without basic specs.

You probably do not produce enough KE to push a large broadhead. Use a smaller fixed head and make sure the bow is in tune.

My son has the same bow in a 60lb, 29 inch model. He's shooting a 370ish grain arrow, and uses Muzzy 125's. He's never had problems with penetration. I'd say its either a tuning issue or the broadhead you are using, possibly both.

The last deer was shot with a 2 blade Rage broad head. I realize this is not a fixed head, but I purchased it because the Broad heads are advertised for slower bows. It had a cutting area of 1-1/2"

Most likely your bow is not tuned properly and your arrow is not flying straight. If the bow is out of tune and the arrow hits the target sideways, you will get minimal penetration. @ 29" draw, you should be using a 250 unless you are shooting 64lbs or more. Over that , then the 350 should be correct.

This happened to me last year. My bow was not properly tuned and hit the deer in the shoulder at an angle. No penetration with the rage whatsoever. I watched her run off with the arrow barely dangling from her. I have since had my bow tuned properly and learned how to do it myself. Every deer I've hit since has been a clean pass through. I use Rage broadheads and a 64# DW.

With my setup (60# @29") with Rocket Steelheads (1 1/8" cutting diameter) I almost always get passthroughs.

The IBO speed of the bow is 295. At those specs it is definitely shooting lower then that

That doesn't matter. I used to get two holes shooting a 55# recurve getting 170fps. It sounds like he is possibly getting some poor arrow flight that is limiting penetration.

I'm just stating that his bow is not shooting at the speed he thinks it is.
