As a first year bow hunter, I didn't know how this season would go. On my fourth sit of the season, I had a three point make a scrape at about 10 yards away from me after I hit the grunt call in the early morning. That in itself was a cool experience for me. About 20 minutes later, I glanced off to my left and saw what I thought was a 2 1/2 year old 8 pointer. heading right for the runway behind me. I was hunting between two fields when I saw the buck heading my direction. He got on me so fast that I didn't have a chance to stand up. He got behind some brush and I tried to draw but he caught my movement and ran back about 15 yards. At this point he was standing 25 yards away perfectly broadside trying to pick up more movement from my location. I tried to draw again and my arms felt like jello because he was the biggest buck I had ever had an encounter with including my ten years of rifle hunting. I was able to get drawn back and made a perfect shot. He ran about 60 yards and expired. He even turned out to be a 9 pointer. I guess you can say I'm now hooked on bow hunting. Very blessed and fortunate to get an opportunity to take this buck.
1st year hunting and you shot him from the ground with no ground blind? Yeah I think you have this bowhunting thing figured out! Congrats on the deer and looks like you hit him good.
