Many of you here know of a deer I have been watching the last couiple of years that I named Fortune Cookie. He always spends his summers on me and inevitably, as soon as the velvet begins to peel, he heads south a mile to my buddies farm. He usually makes a couple of mid day appearances for me during the rut so I always hope for the best. Well my buddy told me last week that he had alreay passed the deer and he was very killable on his farm. He also said he had a friend from PA coming to hunt and that he would likely let him take him if possible...... Last night at 6:30 PM I got the call, FC was dead / - With mixed emotions I hopped in the truck to go put my hands on a deer that I have layed awake thinking about many nights. I congratulated the hunter and admired FC for 3 hrs. Good guy and certainly a deer of a lifetime for him! Live weight was 281 lbs and he green grossed 168 4/8. I will post some pics in the next comments from my phone. The pics TRULY do not do this deer justice. Tonight when I get a chance I will post some of the better hero shots.
He turned into a great buck TJ. At least you had the good fortune to know what happened to him. So I'm guessing that he was 4.5 this year, or was he 5?
I believe he was 5.5 this year but not certain, last year we were guessing 3.5 but with the drought years all the deer were suffering some and seeing just how massive his body really was I think I was off. I didn't stick around to see jawbones pulled last night so I will know more later today and the teeth will be sent off for testing
Nah, I'd be lying if I said a part of me wasn't really bummed but I am happy for him. It is truly a once in a lifetime deer for this guy so I am glad that he got a great deer while he was here.
No, not really, I was bummed the story of the deer was over and I didnt end it but I wouldn't consider that being selfish. I am very happy for the guy. I spent all evening with him helping to weigh, score, take pics, and drink his beer lol etc. I am also taking him a SD card with literally hundreds of trail cam pics and videos of the deer. He is also going home with one of the deers sheds from last year. You can't kill em all and as I already said this guy just killed the deer of his dreams, I was very excited for him!
