Saturday my nephew shot a big doe through her lungs and heart, never touching a rib with a Killzone ... there was NO blood trail...none...I found the arrow soaked in blood and the hair at the hit site.....but no blood ..

I found the doe dead about 90 yard away while we were grid searching. It turns out his BH went parallel with the ribs on the way in and the way out ....perfect broadside shot....I have never seen anything like it...the cuts were long but thin....this had to be why there was no blood trail.....right???

My buck was killed with a Killzone and the gash made a big hole as it cut two ribs going in and one coming out and there was blood everywhere ....

    Thoughts?

Wow! What are the odds! Glad you found the deer. Was the broadhead open when you found the arrow? If so, I think it maybe one of those rare things that happen.

Can't explain it either, with both lungs and heart there would have to be at least one of the punctures low.

I'd chalk it up under bizarre rather than broadhead

Same thing happened to me shooting ulmer edges. Perfect shot doe ran 10 feet and piled up. Arrow soaked but ZERO BLOOD.[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

It was....but because it was perfectly broadside, the opening wasn't more than 2"
The exit was low....arrow passed through ....
That actually looks open...his looked less than that

Yeah, I was too surprised that there wasn't a blood trail being she died so close and it usually takes some time for it to start pumping; but none at the point where she layed. But when we opened her it was like a river.

Tony I had this problem with a Muzzy 3 blade last year. I went through and blew out the deer's heart. Deer went 50 yds and piled up. No blood trail though. About 10 ft leading up to him, he jumped over a tree at those 10 feet looked like someone dumped a 5 gallon bucket of blood. Here are pictures of entry and exit. So I don't think it's the broadhead. I think sometimes it is just the way the deer is hit, the angle, the way they run, etc.

Sometimes I think the legs keep the blood in...that seemed to be another possibility with my nephews deer ...

Just one of those rare things Tony I'd say. I've saw perfect double lung shot deer go 200+ yards and I've saw one lung shot deer go 70 yards. There are no absolutes I guess.

I'm sure she was but that head high junk she was in needed a good blood trail....I am sure we would have found some if it were on the forest floor

Not a two blade broadhead issue...but a double bevel or similar head like this I can see slicing clean through like butter as described and depending on spot and how high on deer could be highly lethal without much blood. Now if this was a single bevel the twisting action I would think would have twisted/ripped organs enough to bleed out through the natural "L" flap they create.

Just goes to show not every Killzone kill is gonna have a gash the size of a ruler...still did the job :)
