The day began with great anticipation on my part. I don't know why but it just felt like today would be the day. I'm sure you guys have felt the same thing at times. I got into the stand about 45min before daylight and it seemed it took forever to get daylight. About 0845 I had just finished eating a protein bar and I looked to my left and there was a decent 8 within bow range but in a spot where I couldn't get a shot. I was kinda ticked at myself because the 8 had slipped in while I was distracted and I felt like I may have blown my chance for the day. I really started paying much closer attention after that. About and hour later I hear crashing and look to see a buck running two does. The does come across the drainage right of way and right past my stand. The buck crosses the drainage and comes into my section of timber, standing broadside at 18yds. I never hesitated, I knew I was going to shoot this deer. I drew back and released. There was a loud crack and for a moment I was a little confused because he takes off with the nocturnal sticking out of his side. He runs about 10yds and I see it fall out. I keep watching and he begins to stagger and goes down. All total he only ran about 40yds. I didn't realize it but he was standing right in front of my camera. I didn't get the shot but I did get him in his last moments of life. Here is right before I released the arrow.

About 20min later, I'm tracking, although I really didn't need to.

Broken arrow with the first blood.

    Entry wound.

    Exit wound.

And of course, the end of the trail.

I went back and took a pic from the spot where he was shot. You can see my camera on the tree and my stand in the background.

I know there are some who would say they wouldn't have shot this buck but it made me happy to release an arrow on this animal. I enjoy sharing this with you all because we are a brotherhood. I thank God that He allows me to participate in this great hobby.

    Blessings. ..........Pastorjim
