Help with shoulder shot buck

Just drilled a buck 15 yards away, I'm 15' up and I have a 20 yard pin that shoots high... Arrow went in 10" and broadside, a hair quartering to me maybe 20 degrees. He had trouble running, should I give it a night?

 

Where was the impact?

 

I wouldn't give it a night just offhand without first looking for the arrow and blood. I'd assess from that point.

I hardly ever wait all night to look some.

 

If you got 10" penetration through the shoulder that buck is dead.

 

I vote that is a dead buck.

I agree dead deer unless you hit him to high and forward

 

Like Covey said I would check the arrow & initial blood trail & go from there. The # of yotes is your area would also come into play if it were me.

Im assuming you don't have the arrow? If it were me, and the shot was anywhere in front of the diaphragm I would be looking within an hour. If so, once you get on the blood you should be fine. Good luck

Should have added the broadhead my bad- I'm shooting killzones out of a 70lb strother. So pissed about this shot I had to buy a bottle on the way home. Yeah the arrow stayed in. Shot was in line wiht the heart/armpit, Alot higher than I aimed. Good news is that arrow is angled pretty steep into the deer, if say like 35 degrees ,I'm pretty confident I hit lung too. The buck was having some serious trouble running with the arrow in but he was still hauling ***, my hunting partner southeast 150 yards heard him running through brush as well, 3 minutes after my shot. No blood- that's what I expected- so tomorrow I'm gonna go in and try to find him. Pack of coyotes was howling as well. Thanks for the help boys

If you got 10" of penetration you likely got both lungs. whether or not you got enough to collapse the far lung depends on the shot angle. Hell, i'd be looking tonight.
