I am new to bowhunting. This is my first year bowhunting and only my second on the trail of the whitetails. I have been told to succeed on public land I have to find their bedroom. Anyone have any tips on how to find where they are bedding?

Boots on the ground...scout. Find places that aren't necessarily easy to walk through (thickness) and look for sign around the periphery of that. It's out there, but you gotta put the time in.

South facing slopes with good cover can be a good place to start, especially in the mid to late season as the temps drop.

In all honesty it's probably a better idea to stay out of the bedroom with little to no experience hunting. Try and get him coming out or going to is a safer option for not spooking him. To answer the question it depends on the terrain you are hunting but it is usually thicker cover. Post a map we can give some places to start looking.

I marked some spots that I thought would be a good place to look, mostly funnel spots. From the look of it it looks like hill country, find where the hill benches out on the south facing hill and you'll find beds but if you are looking for a buck bed make sure you smell it if it smell musty it's a buck. Like I said in my first reply I'd stay away from the beds and get them going to or out of them. The X on the map looks like it could be a good bedding area if it is hill country. field one.jpg

Ridges are great places for deer to bed when the sun hits them. I would find a ridge with good deer sign and setup early before the sun comes out.
