Alabama South Zone Bow season finally opens tomorrow. I can only hunt the morning but that's okay. I have 5 stands up... one has at least 25 torn up and even broken trees that a buck did this week. I just center shot a 1/2' wide vane target at 50 yards with my Snuffer on the first shot. I am ready... ready... ready. Monday is my anniversary... so my wife and I are going somewhere through Tuesday. 30 Years...
Nice... well hopefully you could bag a nice Deer before Monday.. If you do post the pics.. and Happy Anniversary. GL.
The torn up spot- that is a new discovery. I discovered a Bradford Pear Tree growing on the edge of the woods. (They do have tiny little pears) Anyway I walked the trail and it lead back between a couple thickets where acorns are falling pretty heavily, then I saw broom stick size oaks and gum trees broken and raked all over the place. No idea what time of day he came through, whether it was a one time deal or anything. I am trying to figure out whether to save it for an afternoon sit later next week or take the risk of bumping him before daylight. In the past, my morning sits in that woods have produced between 8:15 and 9:30... of course that means little. Thanks for all the best wishes about the anniversary too guys... it means a lot. Wife has been very sick with the flu this week, so we have already canceled beach plans... though we may go anyway and hope for the best concerning a place to stay. Probably will end up at a Hampton somewhere.
I see "nuh thingk!" Just a herd of big ol' fox squirrels. I have a lot of those. Sat til 11:40. I have a church function this PM... gotta go.
Saw small 4 pointer this morning, he got up to 15 yards perfect broadside but doesn't meet landowners requirements. Just had a turkey walk by a little bit ago.
Letting them walk is great practice for staying calm... I don't have an issue letting forkies and spikes go unless they are mature deer with awful racks. Like my 190 pound cow-horn I shot a few years back. We called him the Boone and Crocket spike. He definitely needed to go to the freezer.
Watched a forky go by Thursday. I like young bucks because they are usually a bit larger than does (more meat) but still young and tender. I let him go hoping for a big doe... which didn't show up after three coyotes came by. Went yesterday, saw 1 coon, 1 possum, 1 rabbit, 1 squirrel, 1 chipmunk, 1 cardinal... 0 deer.
