So i've been looking at base camp leasing and really looking into finding a lease/farm in missouri to hunt for next year. I have a lease in LA right behind the house i hunt just to have something close but i've always wanted to hunt these big buck states like Kansas, missouri, and so one. Looking at out of state hunting license missouri seem to be the most reasonable. Are there other ways to find farms or leases without having to pay a cover charge? Honestly the only thing different between me hunting Mississippi and say Missouri is of course MS is only a hour drive, but price wise in leasing i'll come out ahead in missouri or kansas. I know some of you guys live in these states are there advice for us out of state boys on finding something? It will be a bowhunting lease only and i may take in a member from the area/state from the forums. All advice and imput needed.

I do not know a lot about leasing at all. I would make sure you look into land north of I70 which is Kansas City/ St. Louis and north. The odds of you shooting a big deer will increase the further north you go. Not saying that you couldn't shoot a big one south of that but your chances are higher more north. I don't know if that helps at all but good luck on your search hopefully you can find that big buck lease!

Deer numbers are so spotty in north mo,so check the ground out very well before you lay your money down. finding free ground is still easy for me here but ground with high deer per square mile can be pretty high. I passed on some $10 per ac ground here that now I am kicking myself over this season.

I will send you a pm on some ground

OK thanks...i'm mainly looking where missouri borders kansas maybe up to kansas city at max. Trying to keep the drive under 12 hours.

Good luck on your search for ground to lease. You will definitely want to be north of I-70. My family has ground in Macon and Adair County. The biggest problem is that these 2 counties are part of the 6 counties that have had the 6 point antler restriction removed due to CWD.
Missouri is a great state with a lot of public hunting areas that are great for bow hunting especially before the gun season.
Good luck. How many acres are you looking for?

most leases so far have the 4pt on one side which is total ok with me i'm use to that here. Most tracts i've looked at are 200-500ac trying to stay in a budget

It is easier to get leases for bow hunting than it is for gun hunting.

No land is hard to come by in the really good areas of MS but i've only hunted the southwest part. My best advice is try to get close to the Mississippi river big bucks in that area.

You do get 2 buck tags with archery permit but you can only kill one before gun season.
When did you plan on coming up?

Ok well thats good news must have read it wrong. I'll probably hunt early season a week then come back up in november a week(depends on the area rut) and i'll try a late season also. tops 3 weeks total.

If you can find a lease there are lots of public lands that are archery only.
On the tags you get 2 "any deer" tags. They are not buck only tags. Are you looking for 200-500 acres?

There are no good deer left in Missouri. Just sayin'

Avoid Macon, Linn, Sullivan, Adair, Chariton and Randolph counties. Those counties are in the CWD containment zone. The 4pt restriction has been lifted, and according to a MDC land manager, it's open season in those counties for anything that walks on 4 legs. It's going to be a long time, if ever for those counties to recover to their once glory days. Other than that, I agree with the North of I-70.

i'd settle for less than 200 only if it has a good herd on it. I'm not big on public land had bad exp. with that here i like having something i can put work into and leave stand in. I see what you mean with the tags now thanks

Come on now Missouri isn't that bad. I haven't hunted up at the families ground for years because of the CWD. I mostly hunt urban areas and in Mercer County now.

Just a little sarcasm and frustration about our out of state tag prices and availability is all. There's no arguing that Iowa and Kansas produce bigger bucks with their more conservative regulations.

I totally agree on the regulations. I don't believe we should be able to kill at least 3 bucks and possibly 4 if you make it in a management hunt. I'm not fond of non-resident tag prices either.
I agree with the KS and IA regs too.
