I was just wondering. When you morning hunt how early do you take to stand? What are the determining factors that you go on.
I have an hour drive to hunt so I usually am leaving the house by 3:30am in order to be setup an hour before daylight
I like to be on stand and settled at least and hour before sunrise. I have a camper at my lease so it's usually a 2min-15min trek. Kilboars Hunt Club
I too have a 45 - 60 minute drive. Then a 1.5 mile walk. So, before time change about a 415- 430 wake up.
Sounds good u guys I been on stand since 5:30 had about a 10 min walk to it. But do u ever bump deer going in or are u pretty sure of there movement. My reason asking is because the other morning around 6:00 or so I tryed coming into the stand and there were deer already atleast 30 yds from it. Lets just say I saw atleast 3 to 4 sets of eyes. This morning I got in an settled by 6
Well I have about and hour walk to my stand and like to be set up an hour before day light. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Depends on the stand...most of mine if I can shoot at "x" I want to be there and up 1 hour prior...a few stands I lesson that to 30 mins.....a couple at certain times of the year longer than 1 hour.
I like to get in my stand about 15 minutes or so before shooting time. I can only stand to sit in a tree so long and I don't wont to waste an hour of that in the dark not being able to shoot anything trying to keep from falling back asleep. And its not unusual for me to get set up in my tree and have only a few minutes to shooting time. And its not unusual to have a deer walk in 10 minutes after I set up. To each his own, that's how I do it.
For me I'm just not going to go and get setup in a tree so that I can stare into darkness for an hour. I just try to be in the tree and setup by the time legal shooting light rolls around.
For the most part, I like to be in an hour before sunrise. But it depends on what I am getting on my trail cam. If all the deer are starting to come out an hour before sunrise, Ill jump in the stand 1.5 hour before sunrise. With our closest property being 2 hrs from me, that can sometimes mean a very very early morning for me.
I like to get up an hour before I have to leave to let the coffee percolate thru the lower colon. That gives plenty of time to shower. I like to be in the tree 30-60 minutes before legal shooting time. I have a 20 minute drive and 10-20 minute walk depending on stand.
I am an early riser, so I am up and going everyday at around 4:30 a.m. We live about 5 minutes from our property, so I have no worries getting showered, dressed and into whatever stand I am hunting about 1/2 hour before first light. I hate running late, so that is pretty much a set-in-stone rule for myself. I find that getting to the stand and settled in 1/2 hour before first light gives me a chance to cool down, get relaxed and mentally ready for that all-important first hour of the day. I LOVE the early morning and watching the world come to life around me. There's just not much better than experiencing dawn from a tree stand on a crisp, fall or winter morning. Life is good!
I try to be set up in my stand about 15 mins prior to legal shooting time. However, there have been multiple times where I have gotten a late start and walked out to my stand after sunrise and still killed deer.
Like others have stated i have an hour drive to where i hunt. Its a 20 minute walk to my one stand and 45 to the other. I try to at least be in the stand 30 minutes before first light. I have bumped deer but doesn't usually seem to affect the day i still have deer coming around the stands.
I try to get in with enough time to be set up about 10 minutes before I can shoot. I would rather sleep an extra hour than sit in the tree in the dark and cold weather
Thanks for all the input yall this was my first early morning sit in a stand since last season I set in the blind once this year early no luck but this morning I got a doe so im officially an early riser.
I usually head to my tree when I can see where I am going enough so it doesn't freak me out. I hate being out in the woods in the complete dark. Yes, I am a scaredy cat. But, no, I have never jumped deer. My stand is off a little roadway (radio tower) - so it works out good. I usually am in the tree by 6:45ish. Congrats on the doe!
