Is it just me, or does anybody else feel like deer movement decreases when there is absolutely no wind whatsoever?
I don't think I've really ever experienced absolutely no wind at all but I've heard that if there's no wind, move to higher ground to hunt where there may actually be slight wind. I guess the thinking behind that is if there is no wind at all, deer don't want to be in a bottom where they might smell something but have no idea where it's coming from. Since I've started keeping a journal of when I see deer by logging the weather, wind, moon, and time, I seem to have the best luck when there's 4-6 mph winds.
I totally experience that ....and I agree with Doug... that breeze that blows up to 10mph seems to bring the most movement....at least as far as dink bucks go....as for brutes you will have to ask someone else
I know that I've never seen a deer on extremely windy days. I mean like 20 to 30 mph wind. I agree with others this a 5-10mph wind seems to be the best.
I know that you definitely do not want hunt a low spot when there is little or no wind. Your scent will settle into it like a bowl. Blessings........Pastorjim
I hate hunting in low wind. The deer never move well in my opinion. I prefer 10 to 15 mph. Seems like when it gets under ten they don't move very well. I think there to nervous since they can hear so well.
I agree on the no wind. Last year, in a 20 mph cold and nasty wind I shot my biggest buck yet. I don't like the high wind either but they live in it every day.
