Looking to replace the vanes on my arrows. What vanes does everyone prefer to use??? and what's your favorites??
2" Blazer vanes fletched with a helical for excellent fixed blade broadhead flight. I use an Az Ez-fletch mini jig.
I've had issues getting the fusion vanes to adhere, but haven't ever had a problem with the blazers. Ever experienced that Backcountry? What are you using for glue? I've always used Gorilla glue...
Never had an issue, I have been a Norway staff shooter for the past three seasons. I would likely suspect the glue, I have seen a lot of fast set glues go bad for different reasons. Personally, I like to use Saunders NPV glue, its a slow set silicone based glue that gives a flexible base.
I will try that glue next time. I was really hoping to try those fusion vanes too, they seem like they'd be much more aggressive with arrow spin.
I have been using Blazer vanes a long time and have never had one fall off. They either get ripped off from stacking arrows in the target or I have to scrape them when I decide to change colors.
I'll stick with the 2" straight Blazers. No issues with fixed broadhead flight out to 75 yards and they don't drag near as much as helicals. A helical will drop 4-5" at fifty yards compared to a straight Blazer.
Yes. In my set up, I can take the exact same arrow with a NAP Twister Helical vs. a factory straight Blazer and the Twister will hit 4-5" lower at 50. Every time. A Quickspin will also hit lower than the Blazers. The added resistance creates drag which slows the arrow down considerably, increasing the drop. They all group great, but for me it makes my sights bottom out too quickly at distance (meaning I could not use my 5th pin out to 75 like I can w/ straight Blazers, and that's how my bow is set up for elk.) Since I personally don't have any difference in grouping, I see no advantage to a helical. For others it may help a lot.
