I'm curious, do you guess have any tricks to use as far as detecting wind direction and speed? I am a fan of carrying some saw dust in a tin and use that to sprinkle into the wind and I find it works quite well.
Milk weed, honey vine, cotton wood and many other natural floaters work very well....and they also let you know what the wind is doing 30, 40, 50yards from your stand.
Piece of dental floss attached to the end of your stabilizer works pretty darn good also. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I use a WindTracker. I used the powder bottles for years but they don't tell you what's happening a distance away from you. The WindTracker works just like milkweed, but the dispenser is waterproof and very compact. I have mine on a keyring that is attached to my bino harness so it's easily accessible but also not in the way. Ozonics™ WindTracker™ Wind-Direction-Detection Fibers : Cabela's
Chalk-line powder comes in a squeeze bottle and you can get it in practically any color and see it for a long way.
I like a lightweight white string put in my bow string, separate bow string and slip white string thru, I put mine above the peep. Works great for seeing your wind where you are sitting.
I posted this but Marking Chalk from Lowes is .98 cents and can be used for marking your trail as well. See .98 cent GPG thread. Should be GPS.

Schultzy suggested milk weed to me a few years ago and that's what I've done ever since. It's neat to be able to see that white fluff push across a field and then all of a sudden make a hard turn, raise into the air, or drop straight to the ground. 2 years ago on a frosty cold November morning, once it got good and light outside, I had a mature doe down wind of me but she wasn't busting me. I couldn't figure it out, so I threw a bit out. That white fluff almost lifted straight up in the air and the slowly continue to rise as it pushed out over the top of her. Then j shot her. That showed me how the thermals worked in that particular stand. White powder doesn't produce that kind of result.
