What a great hunt I had......I've bow hunted a few years now and have a pile of doe and a bear under my belt but could never close the deal on a buck....granted I passed on some looking for what I would consider a great first bow buck....never did i think itd be this guy...to set the scene im sitting in a tree up against a huge pine that provided tons of cover from where i thought theyd come from and had perfect wind....beautiful evening about 53 degrees.....about 430pm I see three doe roll in....i watched them mill around and when one came in to range I went to full draw.....just as I was about to pull the trigger I see her come to alert and look back......all of sudden crash crash crash.....this buck comes in hard and chases her and the others off.....i let down and watch....they all take off and I thought you little bas....you get it.....anyway.....about 10 minutes later the buck comes back....he starts making a scrape about 15 yards in front of me and at this point I had decided he would not get an arrow this early in the season.....i watch him tear up the ground and get some work done on the licking branch for a good 10 min....grunting....pawing....dancing around....just an awesome encounter.....one of the best I've ever had.....after he gets done he walks away and I settle in to enjoy the rest of the sit....little did I know he'd be back...about 515pm here he is and he is standing directly under my tree facing me.....he rears up on his hind legs and tries to rub his head on a branch off of the pine tree that's providing my cover....he did this 2 or 3 times and then settled for a lower to the ground branch to start licking and rubbing on.....i couldn't move at all as every time he went to rub the branch and lifted his head he was staring directly at me....i still don't know how he didn't bust me....anyway.....as I'm watching this buck that's entertained me for the past 45 min to an hour I thought to myself what I truly wanted in a first buck with my bow....it wasnt horns....it was a memory....an encounter....a story I'd always remember....this deer gave me a show I've never seen before and I wanted to shoot it.....he went to 7 yards quartered away and I went to full draw....i settled my pin on his back focusing on correct shot placement and form for the angle and let it fly.....he kicked and tore out of there.....i could see part of my arrow laying on the ground.....the fletching and about 4 inches of arrow were missing....the broadhead and part of the shaft layed there soaked in the goodness we all hope for.....i grabbed my binos and saw nice bright red blood with air bubbles.....perfect.....i didn't hear him crash so I stayed in stand till dark....when I climbed down i went to to the truck and prepared for the track job.....good blood to follow....70 yards into it I see a white belly and fist pumped like I was at the jersey shore.....i know its early and the good stuff is right around the corner but i didnt care...the big boys will have to wait for regular season for one of my tags....all i could think was what a cool deer this was....what a personality....what an encounter.....what a cool story.....this is why I hunt....I couldn't be happier with him....my first bow buck

Just busting your balls! Congrats on a great deer. You said it perfectly, its not about the horns but the memories. Good for you.
