Hi guys, I need your advice.
I'm the only one allowed to hunt on this private property, while putting out my stand today I saw another stand right next to me. Left a note on it with my phone number. What should I do?
    Thank you for response

How large is the property? How close is the stand to another property?

Old stand or new? What you did is really all you can do unless you catch someone out there.

8 acre property, the stand is pretty new, he apparently just put it up. It's very close to me, about 40 yards across the cut. I don't want confrontation, but I have few nice pictures of an 8pointer so I'm hunting there

Just be careful, I was accused of trespassing last week and had NRP called on me. Turned out the guy that called was mistaken and trespassing himself while I was good to go.

I have permission from the owner and caretaker. The guy is clearly trespassing.
Thank you guys for your responses

I would get the permission in writing. That way if the guy confronts you, you will have your butt covered.

I would ask the landowner if he gave anyone else permission. If he didn't I'd remove the stand, leave it at the bottom of the tree that it's attached to with a note stating that this is his get his stand back free card, tell him to leave and don't come back, I'd also have a camera pointed directly at it (hidden and out of reach)

Who knows, maybe someone left it there from last year? Did it look like it was just put up?

I am in almost the same situation. i have permission to hunt around 300 acres all to my self and i am the only one. The people who own it who is my youth pastors family won't be hunting this year. It has trespassers all the time. Someone even stole my trophy rock (what a jerk haha) For me i talk to the land owners and they said if i see anyone that i have permission to tell them to leave for trespassing. I even had the cops called on me "for trespassing" (one of the neighbors of the property called them on me) One day i was minding my own business out there clearing out a spot to put a food plot out there next year and to also hunt over this year, and I was sawing down a huge tree and someone said "freeze! hands up!" i turned around and had three officers all with their guns drawn and pointing at me. The patted me down and everything. Took my records called them in. the whole nine yards. Then we called the landowner and the cops left. The whole point i am trying to make is that the landowner has the ultimate say and power/authority. Id tell the land owner. get the land owner involved and he will set it straight.

I have a similar situation, except the guy is 10 yards on his property, facing mine, so anything he shoots is on my property. It's a sticky situation, but I did the same thing leaving a note. I just don't want him rifle hunting facing me. It's about all you can do unless you find him in the tree

It definitely looks new, somebody just put it up for sure. I don't want confrontation but will talk to the owner tomorrow. If he wants it off his property I will take it down and leave it by the tree

Have you seen him shoot onto your property? I'd be careful if I was you because you were the one that trespassed and he has the proof.

Definitely get the land owner involved and see what happens.

Yeah I know. It wasnt a nasty note. I was careful about that. I just let him know my stand was in easy shooting range. Just a friendly heads up

Good choice. I would have drug a bunch of big trees to the fence line and made a natural wall haha.

I was in this situation in the past. I removed the stand and left it at the base of the tree with a note that said this is private property and next time the stand is found it will be taken away. If you find it again, remove it and give it to the land owner, and leave a note in its place with the landowners contact info so he can deal with him to get it back. Worked for me. Although, all I had were cheap stands hung so any retaliation wouldn't be costly.

I'd talk to the landowner and make sure. Then I would take down the stand and leave a note with contact info on where he can find the stand, maybe the DNR address and phone #.
