Don't know, I won't shoot a doe that has a fawn with her but I'm sure the fawn would take off like a bat out of hell.
I've heard that they will sometimes stay close by and bawl and sometimes they will return to the doe after a bit
I had one stay close by the dead doe and bawl. As I was walking up to the doe, the fawn actually started walking towards me. It also watched me drag the doe out of the woods. Never again will I shoot a doe that is with her fawns. That event tugged at my heart strings a little and I don't want to go through it again. Just a personal preference.
I let a nice doe walk the other night because she had 2 young fawns with her. i saw the doe step out and i got the cameras ready and bow off the hanger and waited for her to present a shot.....then i see the two fawns come out, pulled up the binos and saw some faded spots still lingering, so i hung the bow back up and just watched. Did get some good footage though haha.
Passed up 3 does saturday. Each had fawns. All gave me shots. Never will I shoot a doe and fawns. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I once shot a doe that had twins with her. One followed her and laid down beside her, the other stood off and watched a short distance away.
Doe I shot last night had another smaller one with her which I can only assume was her fawn. It had no spots and looked to be a early fawn or maybe a year old. After the shot the doe fell in the field and the other one took off. She came back about 10 minutes later, at least think was same one, and walked to about 10 yards from dead doe, circled couple times and took off. In one way it made me feel a little bad but the doe that I believed to be a fawn wasn't all that young and will most likely have no problem on her own. Won't shoot if they have spots but that's about only reason why won't shoot.
Depends on the fawn. I've had them run off at the shot never to return and I've had them stick around for an hour or so bleating on occasion. They have the capability to survive either way. If I waited for fawn-less does, I'd never shoot any
I shot a doe last year with my ML, the fawn had not came out of the woods yet, so I didn't know she had a fawn with her. When the doe came out, she came out right in front of my Covert, and I had it set at video. I didn't get the shot on video, but I did get the fawn hanging around, and the doe taking her last breaths. Fawn didn't make any noise, but it sure pulled at my heart strings.
