I was watching a clip from Chris Brackett's show and he said that if a buck is coming toward you, and you know you are about to get busted, and that if you are accurate enough you can shoot the deer in the throat right under the jaw and make a lethal kill shot. When I first saw this I thought that this couldnt be right. Any thoughts?
This was enough reading for me to reach the conclusion that some epic dooshness was about to be revealed...
Yeah Im not a big fan either I just recognized his name from sons of guns. After I saw that video I lost all respect for him.
You could also shoot a deer through the eyeball, the earhole, and probably run an arrow directly up his a$$. Doesn't mean you should. Heck, in certain circumstances you could wait in the tree stand and as the deer walked under you, you could just jump on him and ride him like a horse while you're stabbing him in the neck with a stick you grabbed on the way out of the tree. Doesn't mean you should. I'm never taking advice from a dude who spends that much time manicuring his beard. Probably my best post ever right there. Read it and weep boys. You have to forgive me, I'm still ticked over the Detroit Tigers debacle.
This is the worst thing about TV hunting shows. They are teaching people that taking bad shots is OK. Its a win at all cost mentality. ANYONE that would take that shot with a bow should have a lifetime ban from hunting. It's a sicking display of disrespect and stupidity. PERIOD.
Yep, couldn't agree more with what everyone else is saying. That's why the good Lord made the organs as big as they are, so they are easier to slip an arrow through. Shooting a deer in the neck is not how I was taught to kill a deer and that's not how I'll pass it along.
It is a lethal shot if pulled off. I wouldn't do it if I wasn't comfortable with it and I'm not so I won't. He may be able to pull it off every time. He also says in that same show to practice these types of shots and not to take them if you haven't practiced them. Call him what you want but, he kills a lot of deer. They may not be shots most would take but, he gets it done year in and out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Had this shot opening day on a 140" 9 pointer Ive been dreaming about and watching all summer. Came in dead straight at me (somehow), never gave me anything but his neck. Walked under my platform never giving me anything but straight spine. Walked dead away from me never giving me anything but a butt shot. Could've shot him (somewhere) 30 different times. Still can't believe the whole encounter he never presented anything but a bad shot. Watched him walk away, had a pity party afterwards, and wait for another day with a better opportunity. He doesn't know I exist and I hope to put one through his lungs at some point this season. How some of these dudes are on TV amazes me.
That shot should not be taken by ANYONE with ANY weapon ,... totally irresponsible BTW, you only see the animals that jackwagon recovers....
I would never try a throat shot. But a frontal shot, 15 yards and under, from the ground, you bet. Less bone structure than a broadside shot. Go directly through the heart. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
