I had plans to hunt wma here in ky today. I woke up feeling like I had the flu. After a shower and some meds I decided to go forward. Arrived at the meeting house 30 minutes early. After waiting two hours for the third guy we packed up and headed out. As we was unpacking gear at the parking area I had laid my bow on the tailgate as I got dressed. I look over and one of the guys has my bow, brand new creed XS, pulled back with 4 fingers. I think to myself ohh dear God. As he lets her down, you guessed it she derailed. For a moment I lost my cool and said stuff I shouldnt have. After I regained consciousness and looked her over the damage looks to be string and cam bushings on both ends. Tbh I haven't even looked at it much so it could have cracked limbs for all I know. I will take it to the shop tomororrw and get it in a press and see what damage was done for sure. To top it off after sitting for 5 hours with the camera mans bow, I didn't **** squat!
Often times a bow that is drawn and then let off will derail because the bow is torqued to the side when it is let down. The string will jump off the cam especially if the cam has shallow grooves. The chances of this increase when a short bow is drawn with fingers. Never draw a bow without an arrow and a release aid if the bow is made to be shot with one.
EEEEK! That's scary, I shoot my Hoyt with fingers. Good luck repairing the bow... and the friendship.
That sucks. I'd be pissed too. I can't imagine waiting 2 hours for a guy to go hunting either lol. Hopefully it wasnt the same guy. Hopefully he's paying for the damage at least?
That's brutal, makes a person want to hunt solo. Guess the season has only one direction, and that's up from here. Good luck!
Who picks up another mans bow and draws it? I would have piss pounded the clown, then again who brings a camera man with to hunt?
I've never even heard of de railing a bow just bow drawing it and letting it down. Both of the local shops here let you draw bows with fingers, one is a Mathews dealer so I'm sure they have the XS. Learned something. That sucks about your bow though, hope they can get it fixed fast for you. Couple things, no way I would wait two hours for somebody, NO WAY! And is the guy that broke it going to pay to have it fixed?
Sucks bro! I would never grab another mans bow and draw the thing!! He deserved the tongue lashing he recieved from you! Than the next thing he should recieve from you is the bill for the reapairs. Moron bro, hope it all works out!! Best of luck.
That sucks!!! But what do you mean be "after I regained conciousness"? did you pass out from being sick? or did he he knock you out?
That's crazy, who just picks up someone's bow and draws it back without asking. That would be the first and last time I ever went hunting with that guy. I also agree, he should be paying for the repairs.
The bow was torqued a slight bit one way and the string came out of the cam journals. The guy was very sorry and felt terrible about what had happened. Yes he is paying to fix the bow. I Just happened to have a camera in my truck and with three guys and only two bows the one guy that had already tagged something got picked to be camera man. We are all good friends ,it was just a bad day.
Well the bow is fixed. $20 for parts and labor and $20 for gas and time to my mathews dealer. Now if I can get rid of this nasty flu like symptoms I can get back in the stand. For those who are interested the bushings that ride on the cam bearings were shattered. Other than that no damage was done.
I feel your pain: I was showing my bow to a Roman Catholic Priest and he partially dry fired it. It was not the start of the Reformation again but it could have. No damage, but my new rule is you can hold it, but no drawing it back without a arrow. Scotty
