Good morning all. I am looking to switch to a fixed blade bh from the rages. I grabbed some slick trick mags but could not tune my bow to get them with my fp's. I like the short compact design of the slicks and was wondering if any one had suggestions on similar bh's types? I am shooting a PSE Axe with GT arrows.

First, congrats I guess, you are the first person I've heard that has had issues with Slicks out of a bow. I would recommend trying the ol' trusty thunderheads from NAP or really any other fixed...if a trustworthy one still doesn't fly right, I would bet my bottom dollar your bow isn't properly tuned.

I read the tuning guide and picked up some great advice. I turned up the poundage, spin tested the arrows, and adjusted my rest but could not get closer than three inches high at 20 yards. Any other tuning suggestions would be great as well. I really like the slicks and would love to get them flying with the fp's.

Your bow likely needs more tuning work. I have NEVER seen a bow that slicktrick's will not fly out of. Any way you can post a picture of your nock height?

Probably a tuning issue, however the QAD Exodus broadheads fly like a champ. The short length of the blade over shaft keeps them about the same overall length as field points and I've found them to be extremely easy to get to shoot well. They are tough as heck, sharp from the package, three blades with a 1 1/4" cut and as I said fly like a laser.

G5 Montecs, Muzzys, or Thunderheads all should be a good options.

Backcountry: I will try and post a pic when I get home from work. When I moved the rest down I was concerned about fletching clearance so my next option was the nock height but I just haven't had time to adjust it. I have since move the rest back to its original position. I think I will give the bow a good tuning next year. Season opens in a week here so I do not want to mess around with the setup to much this year.

Not to be "that guy" but please don't take a out of tune bow that is "bandaided" to work. Tuning bow correctly will only take an hour. When you get home check the machined marks on your arrow shelf. There is one for horizontal and center shot. You should be damn close to hitting those.

Check out the QAD Exodus broadheads, switched to them 2 years ago from an expandable and they are awesome. If your arrows are not flying properly out of your bow, you may want to check the spine of your arrows, I have found that is a big issue with fixed blade broadheads. Also check the weight of each arrow, do a spin test to make sure that is ok aswell.

The head you shoot doesn't matter one bit...out of whack spine is out of whack period.

Slick Tricks should tune real well. I've tuned 3 bows with them now and they respond to adjustments very well. As long as your spine is right and initial setup is close it shouldn't take more than a couple hours leisurely shooting to sort it out. I say a couple hours because I don't like to shoot a ton and do adjustments all in a row. I feel that if your going at it arrow after arrow for a long period that you get tired and end up hurting yourself. I do 6 shots then adjustments 6 shots then adjustments then a break. If your close to begin with that may be all you need anyway. But in the end listen to tynimiller. He knows what he's talking about.

Here are two picks of my set up. I have always shot rages so I have never tried to tune the bow myself. When I first shot the slicks they were about 7 inches high and 4 to the left so I increased the poundage and moved the rest, based on what I read on some tuning guides. I got close but not where I wanted to be.

And thank you for the feedback. This is my first attempt at tuning so the help is appreciated.
