my friend said that face paint is just for looks. I disagree I think it helps shadow your face and break it up to were it is less obvious and doesn't stand out

My face breaks out if I use it too much...but it must be done  otherwise it just doesn't feel right, especially early season.

As for the shadowing...all depends on how much or how you put it on.

Black streaks on your cheeks makes you look tougher.

I think I could probably get away without any and sometimes I don't put it on. But I know if a nice buck looked up and busted me I'd blame it on my bare face, so I'll continue to wear it most of the time.

I don't use facepaint but I do wear a balaclava. Basically the same thing except I don't have to spend a half an hour putting it on and taking it off. I feel it's definitely a good practice. I've used my bow and my glove hand several times to cover my face while deer were trying to find me or just nearby when I forgot my mask. They will see your face though, they have pattern recognition software forefront in their brain and will recognize an eye/nose face pattern. Breaking up that pattern will throw them off.

Yeah if bow is in hand I will usually hold it infront of face as well to just break up any features not hidden with my :ninja: paint job. I also have a mask I wear once facepaint gets to be too much or when it gets cold and the mask is warmer.

Well I don't think my success rate goes up or down cause of face paint, plenty of times over the years I've harvest a deer with none, and plenty of times didn't harvest a deer with it on, it's preference IMHO, I prefer none.... I Grow a beard for hunting season and wear sunglasses... Same effect IMHO, and mask in later season

Face paint definitely helps break up the outline of your face. Although I usually only wear it early season when it's still warm or while duck hunting but will turn to a mask when it gets cold..serves the same purpose and is obviously warmer. However, I have been busted without face paint or a mask and sometimes the deer are unbothered but I rather stay concealed than take that chance

Mask for me. Either should help break up your silhouette.

I prefer the mask. I also will hold my bow in front of my face when possible.

You are a big glob in a tree and not supposed to be there regardless of camo on face or body. Save your money and time wasted...just my opinion of course.

Scent and movement or lack of, is what is going to make you successful or unsuccessful as a bowhunter.

This. I however am a very ugly man (perhaps the most ugly man you will ever meet) so I wear a mask so as not to frighten the deer or other hunters. Makeup would only make it worse so I wear a mask.
