I'm pretty frustrated at the moment, but that frustration turns to motivation the more I think about her. So to bring everyone up to speed. I have this doe that has been haunting me for 3 seasons now. She is super smart, and has been educated by man. She has screwed up 7, count em seven opportunity to stick another doe. She is swift, silent and I'll bet deadly. And she is über fat. Well last night I had a two year old just getting ready to clear the thicket, when she lets out this blood curling screech. She scared the **** out of my boys with that screech last year. The boys named her the headless deer that haunts our farm. Literally she does at this point. She was right under me when I came to full draw on this other doe. My tree stand is 21 feet in the air sitting above all the canopy which completely conceals my stand. I have great cover and blend behind me as well. She is dead meat I am dedicating this early part of season to vindicate my self.
Sounds like that will be a good chase. Goodluck! Sometimes old does are harder to fool then a buck of the same age.
I had a mean old doe at my place she was the food plot bully and had not had a fawn in 2 years. I took her out last fall. One of my favorite deer hunting moments
Those are the ones you have to put down early!! You don't get too many chances on a doe like that because they get smarter and smarter with every encounter they have! Good luck hope you put her down!!
I have one like that at one of my spots. 2 or 3 seasons now I've got her on trail cam (she's got very dark almost black front forelegs) and has busted me in the tree twice and a ground blind once. One of the times she busted me in the tree was over 100 yards and across a field. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That sucks!!! Was it a hang-on stand? if so maybe next time you go in bring a climber...and bring a big bulky jacket on a hanger and hang it in the hang on stand, and set up in the climber near by.....
Same thing for me i have a huge old doe that is now a clay gray color and she walks around my tree stand around 7:30am so i hope to get her on open morning.
It very well may be the muzzle loader that handles her this year. My problem is that she only comes out of the thicket at one location. If I set up where she comes out I'll never see her. It's a hot spot for sure. They bed down in all the briars that is close to the road bordering a super thick pine grove. If I set up 40 yards down the trail where they have a three way intersection at the creek they use, then she comes out at the thicket. So number two problem is that its just so damn thick with pines and vines, and all the other millions of holly bushes. So she is well within bow range problem is arrow will never ever even get through that crap. Just a horrible shot to try and make, wouldn't even think of it. Plan B is being executed tomorrow. I am setting up on one of the antique tobacco barns we have on the farm that faces the tractor road to the pasture. It's so thick looking back from my tree stand I can't see where she is coming out on the road but I've got a good idea, so tobacco barn it is. I've got a few things to do to it in order to get it all set up, and more importantly SAFE! Now for the good news. I am the hunter she is the hunted. She will taste delicious I'll keep y'all posted.
Hahaha love to hear stories like these. They crack me up. Those old does are smart!! Good luck bud! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
When you kill her, you will be able to outsmart just about any buck you come across. An old doe is the SMARTEST OF ALL whitetail deer. Can't wait to see you stick her.
If it was me I would let here live. SHE is the future of your deer heard. The old does are the one that teach the young how to elude all predators and survive. The younger one are tastier too. I shot a 7-8 year old doe years ago...the toughest meat I ever had.
