Title says it all. Do you or would you lower your standard for what you would shoot or not shoot if the buck was in velvet? If so, by how much?
The answer is that some people would love to shoot a velvet buck and in many cases the chances are few and far between (for most people).
I would not shoot one in velvet. Even if it were legal, still wouldn't. I don't find anything "exciting" about the velvet. They look bigger, but I much rather have a hard rack.
Yes. But not to the extremes of shooting a velvet basket six over a mature 10. If all variables were the same... (age, no history, etc) I would take a mature velvet 8 over a mature hard antlered 10.
Same answer as everyone else. Nope, wouldnt pass on a good deer becasue of it but wouldnt lower my standards.
My answer is no as well, but I really wanna shoot a velvet buck. It would also be cool if the velvet was hanging off in places!
I'd love to shoot a velvet buck. My standards have changed since first harvesting a mature buck, so just to clarify, I would not shoot a 3.5 y.o. buck again UNLESS he was in velvet and had a decent rack. I would not shoot an immature buck just b/c he's in velvet.
I would much rather shoot a buck out of velvet than in so there is no way I would lower my standards to shoot something in velvet.
I believe the taxidermy bill on a velvet buck is way more. They have to preserve the velvet on the buck or reproduce it. Gets pricey from what I understand.
why waste a tag on a smaller buck with velvet... everyone has a camera phone take a picture cause you know what they say about camera guys... they shoot everything!!!!
