Well, me and my buddy went out and checked our treestands yesterday. We both like ladder stands and we have sort of standardized on 20ft. ladders with flip up seats. Good stands for bowhunting. Over the years we have lost a few stands and knew that we had lost at least 1 last winter after seeing it was gone during turkey season. As we visited the sites it became apparent that not only the 1 stand was gone but we have been completely wiped out. All of our stands were missing!

I cannot begin to express my utter contempt for the morals and ethics of some people. One of the worst parts of this is that it makes start to run down a list of possible suspects and it makes you start suspicioning nearly everyone and your trust factor is reduced for all.

I guess I will be buying some heavy chain and locks for the next ones we put up. I will say that deer hunting is becoming very expensive this year.

That sucks! Maybe a trail cam set in a tree high and out of sight to watch the stand could catch the thief...

That is terrible.. what is wrong w/ people...?!?! esp if it is a fellow hunter!!!!
I have had 2 stands and 2 trail cams stolen over the years and I am pretty sure that all were taken by fellow "hunters". It is really frustrating to think that other hunters would do that to eachother... we have enough people against us as hunters, and to have us against eachother is just an awful thing.

I agree with Long Draw. I would set up another stand with a chain of course real close to one of the previous stand and use it as bait. Get a trail Cam up in a tree where it can be hidden from view and try and catch these guys. Otherwise, they may just come out and realize there are chains then come back with cutters....

BAST%RDS!!! That sure sucks and I can totally understand your trust level going south regarding such behavior!!!

I've never had a stand stolen, however in the event I do and I can find the SOB who took it I'll contact the authorities and confront him with evidence it is mine! I have taped a piece of paper inside the tubing of each stand with my contact information - let someone explain how 'their' stand has THAT inside it.

My buddy had two trail cams stolen last year. Had his stand locked on with pad locks.. the person couldn't get the stand off so they came back later and filled (dripping out and mound on top) the locks with super glue. Some people are just A*******!

That really sucks. It sounds like you will have to resort to chain and locks. Was it private land or public?

That really sucks! I agree, even on private property you need to lock stands these days. There are way too many people with no respect for other peoples property.

Hate to hear that , can't stand a thief .

Big Game makes a rubber coated cable lock that can be used without making much noise . Only downside to them , is trying to get it unlocked after leaving your stand in one place too long but I'd imagine any lock could have that problem .

Man that's terrible, I just read a previous thread about this same thing. I hope you figure something out. I have no patience for thieves and taking advantage of people. Good luck.
