I like hunting from a stand and blind but running and gunning for turkey's is so much fun I want to do it for deer as well
I'd like to try sitting in a stand some day. Don't get me wrong I'm not nocking on those who do, but that's just not my game. I'm a mover and a groover. ADHD? No way. Just always been the type go out and get something I want instead of waiting for it to come to me. I can't tell you how many opportunities I have lost hunting this way kicking the deer up seeing them only as they run away. Long hikes, hot days, long shots! I draw the line at 80 yards. Anything under that is game on. I know that's far. And I'm sure people will pipe in with their I only shoot under ten yard nana jargon and right on for them. I'm not mad. If I was looking to be the most ethical hunter in the world I sure in the heck wouldn't hunt archery. Two nights ago I had a buck, small forkie, duck my 75 yard shot. Things can go wrong. I was happy for a clean miss.
Your statement in other thread said "does anyone hunt anymore or do you just wait"....,nothing degrading in that statement....lol
I do whatever it takes to put my buck on the ground . If I have to move , I move but usually just sit and let him move my way .
^This^ Very rarely do I move once I am in a stand. I practice shooting sitting and standing just to be prepared.
I'm not going to lie, I like treestand hunting less and less every year. I mean it's still better than not hunting so I do it, but it's incredibly boring compared to spot/stalk, calling, walking around and glassing, etc. I find that after a long 3 day weekend on stand I'm ready for a break. Idk how some guys take off like 8-10 days in a row to sit in a treestand. If you are seeing high deer numbers it can be better I suppose. And LOL at the statement above that if you wanted to be ethical you wouldn't archery hunt.
Haha. I am actually pretty sure I do have adhd (self diagnosed)...but I still hunt out of a stand. Spot and stalking in the fall in Wisconsin in the middle of the woods isn't very easy. For me at least.
Definitely not. Still hunting can be effective with rifles but IMO spot/stalk with archery in hardwoods is all but impossible for whitetails. I too hunt from stands out of near necessity.
Deer around my neck of the woods freak out when they step on a stick, imagine what happens when I go walking around and step on a stick. I hunt stand/blind, and occasionally I'll just sit on the wood line in a brush pile over looking a field. I take a vacation beginning of November and I'm usually in stand everyday/all day for 8-9 days straight.
I always bowhunt from a stand. Around here, unless it's raining, you'll sound like a herd of elephants walking on the dry leaves.
