I was told that you can put a Manacan dressed like a hunter before deer season and they would get used to it and make it easier for the hunter when deer season comes in.. Is this true?

    You mean a mannequin?
No idea, closest thing I ever used was a few old orange vest hung up in trees just at the range of vision from the road to stop road hunters during rifle season. Seemed to work for that.

    :-).

Yeah. Don't know but had an idea of make a back rest shaped like a guy and have that up in your tree stand always. Then when you sit there the outline is the same.

Outdoor Life magazine used to have an advertisement in the back for a blow up doll human in orange camo that you attach to your tree stand in the offseason.

I will give you the reason why it won't really work.

    1. Deer use their sense of smell to detect danger. A mannequin or inflatable doll will only smell like you for a day, maybe. After that it will smell like...well the woods.

    2. Deer key in on movement to detect danger. A mannequin doesn't move.

You would have the same result setting a bag of sand on your tree stand. It's not going to get the deer used to anything.

No don't go through that much trouble.
One thing I have done that worked for me a few times. I took an old camo shirt that I didn't use anymore. Washed it in scent free detergent, and I sprayed down like I normally do. I then wore it as I walked to the woods. Then, take it off and hung it near my stand. This will get the deer use to your scent being in the area and they will be less likely to spook when you are there.

Wow! First of all....there was no post by Schulz? Did I miss something?

I think you need to take a deep breath. Go on down to the manacan store and pick up a small one to beat up so you can work off some of that repressed anger and then have a smoke. Don't get the kind that the arms detach because one of them might fall off and hit you and I don't think your psyche is up for that right now.

By the way, putting a pelican in a tree might work better.

And....how much does a fricken weigh?

Slow down hoss. On the surface it may sound like a plausible idea. I think the vets debunked it though with sound reasons. Either way if you wanna try it go ahead. Who cares? There's been crazy ideas that have probably worked and some that don't. But think about your question for a minute and if you didn't expect to get some razzing from it, drink a beer and then think about it again.
