Ive noticed no difference in pass throughs using thicker aluminum arrows as compared to slimmer carbon arrows.

Like grommel, I use the same types of arrows to hunt as I practice.

I use the same arrows for practice as hunting why wouldn't you? You play how you practice. I just want to hit hard a heavy arrow is where it's at

    reason i asked

i have a few friends give crap about how slim my arrow are but they swear that they use different hunt set ups for different bows and i said i stay the same no matter if i am using the bow tech or the switchback i shoot both rigs with the same arrows sight release and stab and they said i was nuts but i tend to kill more deer than them but i am nuts i just wanted to show them that i was right but thank you for the replies and info

Same bow. Two different weight arrows.

I would only use a fat arrow for 3d shooting to cut lines. Slim arrows hit harder, there is less surface area so it cuts through wind better and less friction is caused so you get deeper penetration. Nothing but +'s IMO.

Another vote for hunting with same I practice with. From what I understand smaller diameter assists with pass through and that's what I'm looking for. I'm shooting the in exist FMJ ' s and they are awesome.

I always practice with my hunting arrows so it's a non issue. However, I have used both small diameter shafts and standard sized carbon as well as XX78 aluminum shafts, and I really don't notice any difference in pass troughs with the fat vs skinny arrow. To me shot placement, arrow weight (+ good FOC), and sharp broadheads are the keys more so than fat vs skinny.

My point is (it is hard to tell with me sometimes lol) if I am currently shoot a "fat" arrow that is what I hunt with if it is flying well. I don't switch from practice arrows to hunting arrows.

I disagree with BUKFVR21. I agree with slimmer arrow less surface friction which equals FASTER ARROW at less weight. Heavier arrow slower fps but harder hitting. Have a 6' 4" skinny guy punch you then have a 6' 4" stocky guy hit you. Let me know which one hurts more. A heavier arrow is going to penetrate more.

I am a believer in practice with what you are going to use in the field. Would you practice shooting something at a 1000 yards with a pellet gun or would you use a 50cal? 30 yards and under not much difference between field tip and broad head but beyond that you will see a difference. Lethal or not, quick kill or not. Accuracy and penetration. One shot, one kill.

I agree. I shoot the small diameter FMJ Injexion next to my buddy and his arrows and they are not the same. Not even close.

Haven't hit meat yet but I use both thick and slim arrows the thicker ones are a little heavier so I assume they'd pack more of a punch but the slimmer ones go deeper into my target. The weight between the 2 is very minimal like 20 grains, both arrows are over 400 grains with field tip.
