Describe what criteria you use to decide if you mount a buck or not.

    ^^^^corny I know!!!!

I usually only do a euro mount with all my bucks...but the ones with character....droptines and kickers...140 or better. I will visit the taxidermy in those cases...

We must share the same corny sense of humor because that made me lol.

I've never been a big fan of European mounts so if a buck isn't exceptional I'll generally just cut the skull cap/antlers off and keep it like that. I consider any buck worthy of hanging on the wall that's over 130 and unique enough to be out of the ordinary. Generally speaking though a typical or basically typical I would want to score a minimum of 150" to have it mounted.

After having a reproduction made earlier this year, a buck would have to be over 200" before I'd do that again.

He would have to be better/more unique than the last one that went on the wall at this point.

Similar to my internal shoot-o-meter, I have an internal taxider-meter. If it get's the right combination of uniqueness, story and size; my taxider-meter gives me the green light and it gets mounted. If not, it'll get a euro done. :tu:

If it is big enough to shoot, then it is big enough to mount.

It depends. I mounted the first buck I killed(with a rifle) years ago. I mounted the my first buck killed with a bow. Now, if it is a deer I have a history with or the "Buck of a Lifetime" to me, I am mounting it.

For me it has always been if I really wanted to have it mounted and I have the money to do it. My taxidermist is great though, he doesn't require $$ down on it and he gives me the heads-up that he's a little over a month away from delivering. Gives me time to get the money together. I had my first antlered buck mounted and after that it was only if the buck was bigger than my last or it had such character that I felt it deserved to be up there. When I shot my biggest buck I knew it would be hard to beat that one again so it's back to the 'if I really want to have it mounted' idea. Oh and wall space, lol.....

I dont have any full shoulder mounts so if it strikes me as a deer that shud be mounted il get it done. It wud take a decent size buck to get mounted though... If killed by bow i may mount a slightly smaller deer than i wud if killed with shotgun.

Well, Ive only gotten a small 3 point with my bow, but this year I`m expecting at least a 120 or better. We have worked really hard on the plots and mineral licks that i`m praying to The Big Man upstairs that it all will pay off. 120 or bigger to answer your question!

I started mounting my own deer and it takes many hours. Last year both the bucks I shot I did euro mounts because of size of the rack and time constraints., If I shoot another that would be in pope and young score, then I would mount it. I do love mounting my own deer, but takes so much time.

It started at 140". Now it has to be bigger then the last one.

I don't have a number as far as inches of antler, but it has to be big

Only rack hanging on my wall is the first buck I ever killed. I either gave most of the other racks away or I used them when I was building and selling traditional bows for overlays, tips, handles, etc. I guess if I ever shoot a really big one I would consider mounting it.

Like others have said.. If I shoot it, it's worthy of being mounted.

I like shoulder and euro mounts so whichever one I fancy at the time.

I will mount any buck that is pope and young because that in itself is an accomplishment many never have. That being said, i also won't shoot a buck that isn't pope and young...so i guess my criteria is the same either way
