As the title says, what is on this deer's ear? Got two pics of it, and both have some nasty stuff going on with it's ears.

We just had a thread on this. Apparently it's fibromatosis

Never heard of that. We thought it was probably from ticks or something. Is fibromatosis dangerous? Does it affect the meat or spread to humans if the meat is consumed?

No, that is not from papilloma virus. That is simply welts from ticks, deer flies and horse flies biting the ear area.

I posted this to another forum as well, the responses I've been getting there are mostly ticks. That's some gnarly tick damage. I know they are bad this year, early mushroom hunting and trailcam checking provided me with an abundance of ticks...damn things were all over me.

Yeah, ticks cause a lot of stress and no doubt some of that is ticks but people don't often think about how bad they get nailed from biting flies. A horsefly thats the size of a quarter is about like being bee stung when they bite.

I had a picture of a doe like that earlier this season. She was close to the camera, so I could clearly see that they were ticks when I zoomed in on them. Nasty little bastards.
