The last issue was xbow mania as well. Nothing against xbows but they are not my thing. They keep suckering me in with a real low subscription rate. Maybe there is a reason.
I subscribe to nothing anymore...my uncle gets something (don't even remember which one and I'll glance through it when I'm there.
Brad, Just a thought buddy but you might want to crop that pic unless you want everyone to know where you live. You might not care but I thought I would mention it.
I am subscribed to Bowhunting World. However, I never paid for a subscription. I've been getting each issue for 2 years now and I have no idea why. I even called and asked because I was so curious and they didn't have an answer. They said it could have been from buying a hunting license and I won a contest type deal but I was never notified about anything. I'm not complaining though!
I love D&DH but I honestly hated that issue. It still had some articles that are of use to me but this issue is generally a bust to me. Usually they put out some good stuff.
I had D&DH for one year and that was enough for me. Too many stories and not enough advice. Seems like most of these hunting "pros" just say the same thing over and over again. Hunting the area of Wisco I do I am very much anti Xgun and thought they had way too much of that in there last year. I realize I hunt 100% public land, but up till last year we had pretty much free range of a TON of land. Come November last year it got a little more busy. I am very nervous what it will do to the pressure on the deer this year. If you look at the archery stats from other states it put a heck of a lot more hunters in the woods when they opened it up.
Don't worry about it. The sun will still come up and it will have little to no impact on your hunting. Trust me.
After a 2 year lapse I re-upped. Wasn't too impresses, so I let it run out again in March. I've been getting all this year's issues still. If I'm not mistaken, that was just an extra issue though. Not one of the usual monthly ones.
Like I said Fitz the last issue before that was Xbow filled as well. I can tolerate some of it because it is clearly the hot thing right now. But it is not like their other content makes up for all the Xbow stuff I have to look past. It is what it is I guess. What do I expect for $10/year?
I get Peterson's Bowhunting and Bowhunter. Not great but they feed my archery addiction at times when nature calls or the forums are slow.
I like taking them up north to lay on the end tables to look at here and there. Or as was said when nature calls.
I get the Mossy Oak Game Keeper magazine and the QDMA magazine thats about it. Usually I will go buy a couple other magazines from the store in August or September because thats when they really seem to ramp up the content just before season starts.
The mags are like the hunting shows in that the sole reason to exist is to sell ad space, neither is based on what an every day average hunter can expect
They're good reading material for the cabin but I haven't subscribed to one in years. I treat magazines/articles the same way as I do hunting shows, if I turn on a hunting show and they have a rifle or crossbow, I change the channel. I'm not against that form of hunting by any means, but it's extremely boring and not entertaining in the least in my opinion.
I subscribe to a lot of different outdoor magazines. It's nice to be able to sit down and see what's going on in the world of hunting. Having said that, I still have yet to even flip through the xbow issue. The september issue looks a little better, though.
