I built a 2ft stand out of 2x4's to hold my target off the grass to simulate the height of a deer standing. Well I shot a few low and put the two through a 2x4 by 3 or 4 inches without damage. Maybe that's what all arrows can handle, but it surprised me they didn't splinter or break. It took a hammer to pound them out. Arrows are fine but I need new tips.
I had a couple that I was shooting at a park.. I tried some longer shots and didn't expect my arrows to drop quite so far. I put a Velocity XT 5" through a 4x4. Just far enough that I got my tip back, but I couldn't get that arrow out no matter what I tried. Took a lot of effort to finally break it off too.
Yeah I'd chuck those ones out. IMO. Not worth the risk of the next thing they go through being a hand.
Honestly, id pull those couple arrows apart and inspect for damage. I'd be willing to bed there isn't any. If they hit the 2x4's square and punched through, they are probably fine. I have shot the GT's for years and never an issue. I made the mistake of switching to CX's a couple years ago and went back to GT's last season. Awesome arrows.
What would you be looking for? I've set them aside and looked at them again this morning. No burrs, splinters or sign of weakness. Am I missing anything? Ill take everyone's warnings seriously, just hate to throw them away.
Bring them to your local shop and get some advice. I would never shoot them. How many actually hit the 2x4?
Honestly I would've cut up the 2x4 to get the arrow(s) out. I've hit concrete through a target with one of my GT Pro Hunters and nocked the insert 1/2" out of the arrow. The arrow was fine until I tried putting the insert back in. Aluminum distorts really easy...
Hitting the wood might have been okay but I wouldn't shoot them after knocking them out with a hammer.
