I have a question about my bowtech. I bought it new last year, and I've noticed when I shoot with other people that it was louder than their bows. I took it into the pro shop and they told me that they are all like that because they are "speed bows". He asked what the others were shooting and said their bows were quieter because they weren't as fast. I looked up the specs on the other bows and they were only 10 fps less than mine. Is it true that bowtech bows have a distinct sound like they told me?
A lot of them seem to, at least to me they do. My brother in law has an assassin and it is loud, like boinging loud next to my Element. I don't think yours is probably out of the ordinary and your shop guy is right that they are just that way. I don't think all speed bows are that way but Bowtechs are.
I come up with 346.6 grains based on the Easton arrow guide. 28 inch Easton flatline 340s with 100 grain tips is what they recommended when I bought it. I'm drawing 62 lbs.
If you went up 100 grains the bow would whisper and still hit hard enough to pass thru with any BH you choose
I am just going on what I have seen out of my destroyer I shoot about 470 grains it is quiet and it rocks the target. I shoot a single pin and have no problem with a bow sighted in for 25 yards hitting at 45 yards with a little practice, The drop is not that much. A heavier arrow makes a bow quiet and hits hard try a 11.3 gpi arrow you will be amazed how much more quiet your set up is
I will UPS you an 11.3 gpi arrow to illustrate how heavier is quieter and works well, just PM me and I will send it.
My arrows are right around 400g, Sota is most certainly correct a heavier arrow will make less noise. My old speedpro I was shooting a sub 300 grain arrows for 3D it had a little twang to it, throw my hunting arrows in there "450g" silent as anything.
Inserts and heavier BH like 125 grain will all add weight. What do you plan on shooting fixed or mechanical?
Ok, great! I'll see how that arrow works, and go from there. Can I ask a probably dumb question though? How does the heavier arrow help silence the bow?
Part of it is the hollow tube for the string stop. There is an aftermarket string stop for the Bowtech line that you can get that cuts out a lot of that sound, I had it on my Carbon Knight but can't remember the name.
On my Assassin I changed the stock string stop and it helped immensely. I made one from solid aluminum but the Bowrattler gets great reviews. Here is my homemade one:
Definitely agree with Sota. I also have a 2013 Bowtech Assassin (black). I shoot heavier arrows and I have less noise and better penetration than before. You do lose a little speed, but the trade-off is worth it. Another thing to check is your rear stabilizer bar (is that what it's called??). Mine worked loose and was vibrating and causing my cables to wear against each other.
