I thought it would be interesting to see how long members on the site have been particpating in this great sport of bowhunting. I'll start.. I bought my first archery tag in 1976. How long have you been bowhunting?
Growing up in western Mass in the 50's we chased small game with bows and collected an occasional rabbit as kids. Bow hunting for larger game began around 1972 with the purchase of a Bear Kodiak magnum recurve bow. Great bow. Went to a compound bow around 1978. Used that until 2008 when I bought a new bow and started using a release. since 2008, 95% of my hunting is with a bow.
Third season as Bowhunter. Killed 12 point, close to 140" suburban buck my second season. I bow hunt year round. Started out with rifle, five years ago and made the switch to bow cause rifle was too easy for me. Wanted something more challenging and been hooked ever since. You killed a deer with a bow when you were 8? I started in 1985 (I was 14), got out of it in 1988 and then got back into it in 1996. I have been strictly bow only since 2007.
This year will be my 4th season. Never hunted before that and I'm still looking to put my first buck on the ground. Sent from my iPhone
This will only be my second year bow hunting, but my 19th year deer hunting, gun hunting just don't do it for me anymore ...
This will be second year with a bow and hunting. Rifle hunted the year before that and did a few sits as a kid with my dad 20 years ago. Looking back those were probably just bonding times cause I don't think I was quiet enough, could have been why we didn't have any luck. I have been shooting a bow since I was 5 or 6 but never had the time to commit to bowhunting until 2009 with the 2010 season being my first.
First tags purchased was 2012 at age 43. Late bloomer I guess. Took my first deer last season. Hooked on bow hunting for the rest of my life!
I started bowhunting when i was 14 (1990)with my dad. I have been shooting a bow and wanted to hunt since i was 8 When my dad brought home a big 8pt buck. (see picture below) I hunted my first season without seeing a deer in a hunting situation. I had a homemade camo jumpsuit my mom made/sewed from a pattern she found. we never worried about scent control or wind. I hunted out of natural made groundblinds, blowdowns, or cut out sections of mtn. laurel bushes. the second season more of the same, my dad scouted for me keeping me close to him. i had a doe in close on opening day, when she was looking at me i drew back and launched an arrow over her back when she jumped the string. my third season, i was working at mcdonalds so i bought a treestand and did my own scouting, and i ended up shooting a doe!! THAT lit a fire in me, but at that time so did girls!!!! i hunted on and off for the next few years. i took about a ten year leave of absense from the woods while i served in the army and life and failed marriages got in the way. 5 years ago i had a dream about being in the woods hunting. I went outside for my morning coffee and i smelled the cool morning air, similar to hunting season. i told my wife i wanted to bowhunt again. a few months later i nailed a doe opening morning and have been insanely obsessed ever since! I sold my boat, all my fishing gear, all my paintball gear so i could dedicate myself to bowhunting. i have never looked back since!!! sorry for the long story! here's the picture of my dad's CT public land buck that got me wanting to hunt!
