From vehicle/camp to stand how far do you walk? Hunting public land this year and I plan on walking in a little over a mile.

I've done that for deer, water fowl and turkey. My days of elk hikes are over. Darn arthritis.

My farthest walk is right about 1 mile from truck to stand.

Ohio some stands are about 600 yards from the house while others are more like triple that or we drive around to the other side and come in from that way for the S end.

State land in Michigan where I occasionally hunt it's 1.5 miles to get to where we have a couple spots to hunt. A farm we hunt in the Thumb is a good 300 yards to one set and further for a couple others.

The farthest stand from where I park my truck is about 1/2 mile. Some stands are anywhere from a couple of hundred yards, to 1/4 mile or so. Far enough to get loosened up in cold weather........but not far enough to worry about working up a sweat! Works out pretty good that way.

I hunt public land in the West. I walk about 3 - 8 miles a day during a typical day hunting.

Public land in Pa I walk as far as I can go without hitting people coming in from the other side. I do get invited a couple times a year to hunt some private ground in Pa and those are short walks. Ohio a few hundred yards tops.

At most from where I park whether it's a four wheeler or truck, 250 yards. Public, I'm trying to find something where I have to walk further than a mile in; haven't found any.

I am 138 yards from cabin/truck to stand +/- a few yards depending on how far I pull up in the truck if I am driving there rather than sleeping in the cabin.

Probably between 200 yards and 400 yards depending on which stand. I park in same spot every time. Lucky to have private land to hunt.

We went in 5-7 miles elk hunting last year on public ground. Some days we would cover 10 plus miles. Most days were 3-5 miles since we camped away from roads.

Just because you hunt public land doesn't mean you have to walk miles into the woods. I thought the same thing when I first started hunting public land a couple years ago. I got 200 yards from the parking lot a saw great deer sign and acorns so i set up shop. I ended up shooting my first deer that day. :tu: If the sign of deer is a mile out then go there but its not always the case.

Depends on terrain and location, in North Carolina I would walk over a mile from truck to tops of mountains cuz thats where the deer move to during season. Here back in ohio i usually walk 300 yrds to mile depending on what stand I use
