I'm a climber guy, through and through. Where I am its not hard to find a nice straight climbing tree and I like to be mobile. I see deer change their routes all the time so I follow their patterns. I only have one property that I use strictly a hang on...and that's only one part of the property because it's a field edge with no trees other than a cedar.
In the past all ladder stands but picked up a Summit Viper SD for this season and am super pumped to use as hopefully my main stand now.
In the past I used nothing but ladder stands because I felt more safe. Im deathly afraid of heights. Last year, my wife got me a new harness with the climbing ropes and I now can sit 20 ft up in a hang on and feel comfortable.
I have a semi permanent hang on set up on some private land, and have used a climber for the past couple seasons. I just got a LW Alpha and sticks, and after setting it up in the yard a couple times, I really think that the LW hang on is going to be my best overall setup. Same mobility as a climber, but you can get set up in any tree basically, no matter how many branches it has.
Hang ons and sticks no matter where im at hunting. I love how i can change my steup or move to a different tree in no time if i need to and ive positioned stands where nothing is happening in front of me so ill get on my sticks and un due my straps and spin my stand around to the other side of the tree ive done this alot when im targetting a bigger buck and he keeps coming in from behind or downwind of me.
I prefer to hunt out of a hang on, but also use a climber. Im interested in these light weight hang on stands and sticks about how long does it take to setup with these I imagine longer than a climber?
I really fell in love with the LW sticks and hang on this past year. With that said, I am a fan of going straight to a stand in the morning and being in the tree. We will have a couple of hang ons and couple and ladder stands that i will use in the morning. Will also have a few sets of sticks on trees and all i have to do is strap on the LW stand. For the after noon hunts i will use a mix between climber and LW set up. If its super hot i might opt to just use the climber if i know the area i will be going. I still may use these set up inth emorning, i just hate making any noise.
I can be in a tree hunting with my Summit Viper in 5-6 minutes tops... If i have to trim branches or its hot and i slow down maybe a touch longer. I just started using the LW set up so i my routine isnt as perfect as some but i can in the tree hunting in maybe 10 minutes. I need to find a way not to work so hard setting them up cuz i tend to over heat and have to take a break to prevent sweating a ton.
Wow 10 min. that's faster than I would have thought, I like having hang on stands already set up on my lease for the convenience but think I would like the Lone Wolf set up for public land and to be able to hunt out of most any tree... Thanks for that info...
