Ok so i was going over all my spots looking at some maps and seeing when and where i shot all my last deer at so i can come up with some game plans for this year . And over the years ive noticed that ive shot just about all my bucks at last light or during the afternoon never really in the morning for some reason so i think afternoon intill night is the best time for me. So in your opinion what do you think is the best time to hunt or least the best time for you.
Agree with slugger. It really depends on how you hunt really. If you primarily hunt food sources I'd bet you're going to have success skewed towards afternoon and evenings. If you hunt thick cover probably more mixed mornings and evenings. I've shot more in the evening hunts, but shot my biggest in the morning.
Im in the middle of the road as it gets, I always think the mornings should be better, but every year I see more deer in the evenings, BUT I have shot three bucks all at 1:00 PM. So I don't know what to think. This is all gun hunting I just got into archery
8:20 am. I have shot a TON of deer (shotgun /rifle) at 8:20am for some reason. Shot my archery deer mostly during the afternoon and evening hours.
I prefer mornings just because it gives me all day to deal with the animal or to find it if need be. Leaving them overnight here results in a mostly eaten carcass.
Early season = afternoons. Mid to late season = mornings. Both for sightings of deer and ease of finding the deer without it ruining.
Any time I can get out there honestly. I personally think that afternoons are better where I hunt so ill have to go for that. But during the rut I have had better luck in the mornings.
Have better luck on evening hunts. Most of my hunting area is ag fields though so catch them out feeding. Sent from my SM-G900R4 using Tapatalk
8:00 am on my farm is the magic hour. This is the time you have your bow in hand. I've never taken a big buck from this time but this is when I see them the most. 90 percent of my deer have come from the evenings though.
I have killed most of my deer on evening hunts, but some mornings too. I've gotten lucky and killed a couple in the middle of the day as well. The most important thing is to just get out there, the chance to kill a deer exists all day if you try.
On the public land I hunt, I see a lot about 930am right after the lazy hunters start leaving. Back on my land in Alabama though, an hour after sunrise and 30 minutes before sunset are prime times
Any legal shooting hours. I prefer morning only because I like to wake up early and go out but have had equal success all times of the day.
For ANY deer, I would say the morning...for a big buck, the afternoon ...11:00am - 2pm and then right at sunset.... at least that is when I have had the best opportunities
I would tend to agree with this approach. Though I think many have better afternoon success simply because they hunt afternoons more often.
I agree with the above statement. With that being said I try to eliminate a very small portion of the guess work by simply establishing a pattern of movement to and from bedding and feeding areas using the date time stamp on my cameras. For me the best time to hunt in driven by school schedule. I drop the kids at school and head straight to the stand, so I normally try to wait until the major is over before I go walking out to the stand. So for me it's gonna be before noon sometime until around dark. Best of luck to everyone.
