I was shooting today and on a couple of times when I pulled back my release failed and sent the arrow flying. Thank goodness I always point down when I'm pulling back. But I was wondering do releases go bad after awhile this one is about 10 years old it is a Tru Fire. My finger never hit the trigger.

It definitely could just be a loose spring or something from being so old. Releases don't even have to be old to malfunction it just happens

Mostly likely it's just internal wear on the parts.

A loop will start to pull through a caliper style over time. If this is the case, I would get a new release specifically designed for a loop.

You could contact tru fire and see if they can help you out with a new spring.

I'd say it's time to replace, it's better safe then sorry, and this could turn into a safety hazard

I wouldn't trust it, if it has been 10 years it sure does not owe you anything

Scott Samurai or for ten more bucks you could get the Scott Shark which is a very nice release.

Call tru-fire. This is on their site.

Tru-Fire release straps have a one year limited warranty. Do not take a defective product to your dealer but instead ship directly to Tru-Fire. Any failure to follow this procedure may void this warranty. If you are sending in a release due to mechanical issues, the original receipt is not needed. If you are sending in a strap for a defective issue, the original receipt is required. Please include a note which explains the problem that is occurring.
Our Limited Lifetime Warranty only applies to models that are in our existing line-up. Any discontinued models will be repaired if parts are available. If parts are no longer available we will not be able to repair the release nor will it be replaced.
