Explain how it is some people freak out with joy and celebrate right after shooting a deer and watching it run off. Perhaps not knowing for sure if you will ever find that deer. I don't know about you guys but unless I see it drop I'm nervous as all heck until I can touch it. How do you react?
I hate that feeling when you hit the deer and it runs off out of view. There is no celebration till I see him lying there dead
I get happy if I know I made a good shot, for that is all I can do from my part. After that, I pretty much flatline until I find the deer.
I generally know if I hit a deer good or not, so with that said, I know when to celebrate and when not to. Most people would be generally happy to just to have an arrow fly at a deer.
I'm with you. There is no celebration until I have found the dead deer. I have seen the reaction you are talking about on a lot of hunting shows and I think a lot of it is done for the benefit of the camera. I especially hate to see that reaction when the hit is bad or marginal. Don't celebrate a hit that is too far back. You may not even find the deer. It bugs me a little less if it is a no doubt good shot in the heart/lungs. There are just certain hits that you can tell will produce a dead deer in a very short amount of time/distance.
well if you "throw an axe through them" and are being video taped, its mandatory to celebrate immediately, especially if you have several trained tracking dogs back at the lodge ready to go.

I am pretty much the same as everybody else. If I see the deer fall then its time to give thanks and celebrate without falling out of the tree. But if that deer runs out of view I can't help but immediatly second guess everything I just did and I run it back in my mind about a thousand times until its time to go track the deer. Even if I know I had a good shot I have hunted long enough to know Sh!t happens and nothing is certain until you put your hands on your animal.
I may get emotional or that sick to my stomach feeling if I don't see it go down. You never count your eggs...kind of thing as I've been on several track jobs were 'great shots' turned south. I never understood the fist pumping and angry killer faces some make after a deer was hit but didn't go down within sight, heck some have even been after a terrible shot was made on the animal.
Exactly. I'll tell a story how bad things can happen. I shot a doe and felt the shot was great. It was an evening sit about an hour before dark. The arrow ended up in my pond and washed the evidence away as to how good of a shot it was. I was confident though it was a good shot. I got down after dark and started tracking. About 75 yards into my track a deer got up in front of me on the trail and ran off. I backed out thinking it needed more time. I came back the next morning only to find my deer dead right by where I jumped that deer the night before except it was all torn up by yotes. I figured out afterwards the deer that got up was the doe’s fawn. Here I mistaken it for the deer I shot and backed out where it was lying dead right in front of my nose. Here I made a good shot, did everything right with the knowledge I had at the time and still didn't get to eat that deer. $hit happens.
I throw up in my mouth a lil bit. Just kidding I get excited and can be pretty pumped up but I still am really nervous until I find my deer. But I really don't being excited about the encounter and the shoot is bad. I guess everyone can and will have a different reaction each time.
My heart races after I shoot one then I re enact the situation over and over and try to pick up as many details as possible to help me find it, could I see blood, last thing I saw it run by, last piece of grass it touched etc, then once I find it my heart races again! This is me for sure. The doe I shot last fall is the first time I was ever confident after seeing a deer run off. Not sure why, usually I'm a nervous wreck.
