Tie off on the ground. Most guys fall on the way up or down from the stand. Life lines are the way to go.

I don't use one in my ladder stand. I bet no one ties off while climbing a ladder to change a light bulb or get on their roof. But in a climber or hang on, yes, I would expect someone to use a safety harness.

I use one in any stand I hunt. But on my ladder stands I do climb up and down with out being hooked in to anything. I do raise and lower all my gear so I am climbing up and down not holding on to or carrying anything.

Most networks won't air shows that feature hunters in a tree without a harness. I have to assume it was an oversight on their end to allow it.

For those of you so appalled at the guy without the harness do helmetless motorcycle riders and drivers without seatbelts bother you as well?

So the guy didn't wear a harness. It isn't my problem or business for that matter.

I wear one. They don't. Same as millions of other hunters that don't. It is not something I would concern myself with.

    To each his/her own.
Someday, after he has some sort of scare... he'll more than likely hook up.

I have herd of some horific accidents in tree and ladder stands. I my self had one lucky to be standing. I will never go up a stand without a harness. I feel the same though its my life not any one elses. As much as I hate New Hampshire I have to say there saying is good Live Free Or Die. (still hate NH though)

I think the bigger picture is that if you are trying to so people and kids how to hunt let's strut by teaching them safety.
I remember days where the majority didn't wear seat belts no they all do and yes some just out of fear of a ticket and not the dear of being killed in an accident go figure
