I haven't bought any tags but have spent a butt load in preference points. Anyone else buying their kids points for the future? I may never draw a ram tag but I am going to give my kids a good shot at it!
And what is your thoughts about this? I guess my take on it is if my kids don't have any interest in hunting then this is my contribution to conservation. Really no difference then me never drawing a tag. So far I have been doing ram and elk in select states. I want to expand this to other animals / states but its a rather expensive endeavor. This is my 3rd year buying them points.
Thinking along the same line. The issue is I want the kids to be ready with points but they are really going in different directions and are showing less and less interest in Backcountry bow hunting. I need fire from them if they are to start putting in for the draw (ELK) in case they draw a tag and need to go to work. Truth is they are not as passionate about it and after loads of conversation we decided to leave it be. As for conservation we are RMEF supporters. I do not want to force hunts at this time with them.
License bought earlier this year, going to pick up my elk and deer tags tomorrow. out shooting with my sons today and we're ready to go!
Any sport you force them into they will eventually hate in my opinion. If you let them gravitate to it naturally they'll most likely get there. Backcountry is tough and pushing them into it will only be a bad experience for everyone. My buddy tried last year with his 12 year old and it was bad experience all the way around. RMEF supporter here as well!
100% Agree with this. The hunts are to strenuous at this time for their infirmities. They have bows but it is on them to "unplug" for a bit and pick them up to shoot some. They know the opportunity is available anytime for them. The training and practice plays second fiddle to other distractions and academics.
