I wasn't going to post this but decided to anyway. Maybe just as a reminder. Well anyway, I had some cracked arrows laying around that I didn't throw away. I decided I was going to take a few of them that only had small cracks in the end to get cut much shorter for my son so he can use those arrows and cut out the part is cracked. Well needless to say, I F-up big time.

Last night I went to the range, took my first shot and was good. Second shot, all hell broke lose. My string came off and it sounded like it dry fired. My peep went flying. I just stood there like WTF happened. Upon further review I think I accidently got one of those cracked arrows mixed in and shot it and it just broke. I found half of the arrow but never found the other half.

I can't explain what could of caused the arrow to break if something failed on the bow. So I'm thinking the arrow failed which would make sense since I was just messing around with cracked arrows.

Glad I didn't get hurt and bow, limbs and cams look fine. I just need to take it in to get the string put back on the way I see it.

Please sack punch me the next time you see me. Thanks.

    Glad you're ok!

Stupid question... How would a cracked arrow affect your string coming off?

My theory is that upon applying force to the cracked arrow it snapped which essentially caused a partial dry fire and perhaps the string derailed since it probably did not return to the bow straight.

Kinda like this but not from torqueing your bow. I am open to hearing other theories.

Wow, I thought you were going to have a picture of carbon fiber shards going through your hand.

I toss out all questionable arrows immediately.

Yeah me too. I've never had a dry fire. I've never had a bow blow up. I feel like such a F-ing knob.

Someone sent me photos of guys hands with the CF shards going through them and it freaked me out for weeks, so much so I won't even look at any pics like that now. I have know idea how they would get those shards of glass out of your hand:(

Be safe out there. Glad your OK.

Brad, post some pics of your cams. On the energy bows when they dry fire the threaded holes around the cams become oblong indicating some damage.

Here are some pics from AT. This was an 80 pound bow so obviously very bad but it shows what I am referring to.[IMG][IMG]

Yeah I looked them over last night. I can't find anything. But I also don't think it was a full dry fire. That arrow absorbed some energy for sure as it was 20 yards away

I was a victim of string derail. I installed a new quiver on my old Elite Hunter and I came to full draw bare handed. I was looking off to the side of the bow at how the quiver looked mounted just checking it out and I didn't realize I was actually twisting my wrist while doing so! When I went to go let up on the bow it would not let up! I mean I literally had no choice but to just let the bow do what it was going to do at this point, it eventually dry fired and even though the string found its way in the proper place back on the cam it bent the cams to the point of them needing to be repaired. I learned a valuable lesson that day! IMO this is why you should never let someone draw your bow without a release unless you really trust that they know what they are doing. If you have to draw bare handed using only two fingers to draw will reduce torquing the string and causing a string derailment.
