I just pulled a camera from last fall. First pic is from Nov and the second is from May. WOW. Do you think the 2nd pic is the same bear? I never bear hunted but might has to start. By the way. It is my first Moultrie camera (mini880) and as I walked up it took my photo. I put it out Oct 20 and pulled it yesterday. It took 878 pics and has 19% battery life remaining (with alkaline Ray-O-Vac aa batteries). It looks like I found a good cheaper camera. No bad pics of deer, bear, turkeys, coyotes, wolves, racoons, foxes, rabbits, grouse and a trespasser. I LIKE BACKTAGS!! After owning only them for years....no more CuddeJunks for me at any price.
Look like different bears, first pic looks like the bigger and heavier bear! Cool pics thanks for sharing.
Also take into account that in November (and I am no bear expert) the bear would be prepping for hibernation so it would put on a lot of weight. No know the bears on our property started eating a lot and gaining a lot of weight on November. And Wisconsin is probably much colder in November then nj. No way is the first bear a 500lb bear. Looks like a sow to me, short, small head, ears look a little big for it's head. I do a lot of bear hunting in Maine and no way is that bear even near 500lbs. To me the second bear looks like a pretty good sized boar, bigger then the bear in the first pic even. But it's hard to tell that first pic doesnt show much.
Hard to judge the first one without seeing it's relative height, but I would guess it to be in the 250# range. The second is 400+ but also hard judging with him coming head on
The first one looks like his ears are far down on the sides of his head. Makes me think it is a different bear than the second pic. This is all the pics I have of them. Only the one from this spring. I will let you guys know if I get anymore pics of them. I put a stake in the ground, marked off in 6" increments so I can judge height. I should make a good reference.
I would say that bear in the first pic is 200lbs dressed at most. Sow's are decieving, and that to me looks like a sow. The bear in this pic is easily a 500lb bear. It's off my bait site from a few years ago, and that is a 55 gallon barrel behind him. Never saw him in daylight.
PA guy here. We have lots of the 450+ variety bears here. The first bear is probably a sow, in the 250-300 range at most. She's a good sized sow however. The second bear is definitely larger, but I'd say in the 350-375 range. As others have said, just look at the ears to give you a good idea of the size of the animal. When a bear gets big-big, their head usually makes their ears look small. The second bear has those tall, stand up ears which leads me to believe he's around 350-375. Still a very good bear for Wisconsin I believe.
I agree. Second bear is around the weight you suggest, and come fall he'll be 400+ is what my guess was figured at. He's got a real strong, thick build
