His brother picked it out, had a blast this weekend. Some work to do on fitting, form, but a heck of a way to start! Mission RIOT[IMG]

Very nice! Congrats to your son.

Try not to let him develop bad habits like the rest of us LOL.

Exactly! I should have started with "Son, turn around and don't watch, Dad's about to shoot".

Sweet. That is a good looking bow. For those who have boys, what age were they when you first started getting them into shooting bows? I have a 2 year old. I think it is going to be a few years before I get him a bow and teach him how to shoot. Thoughts?

I made my son one of those PVC bows when he was 3 and a couple months. I made a wooden arrow rest for it to help the arrow stay on, wove a string for it, and tied in a top and bottom nock. Other than that it’s the simple 1/2” PVC design. He has a set of 3 wooden arrows with eraser points and this year (he’s 4 now) I cut up some of my old arrows and he shoots field tips at a foam target with adult supervision of course. I’m fairly lax when he’s flinging the wooden arrows around the basement (I want it to be as fun as possible) but when I let him shoot the field tips it’s serious and he knows it. We talk a lot about safety, what “the range is hot” means, never run with arrows, etc. I don’t think it’s ever too early to get them used to the feel of a bow in their hands and talk about safety. Just my opinion, others may vary.

Some excellent points here. My two older boys are 12 and 8, when you see them talking to my 4 year old about safety, or their 28 year old aunt about safety (my 4 year old yelled "you didn't say clear before going down range, now you have a timeout") it makes you think you something right. Safety for all of them was baked in from day 1.
