Full moon in November falls on the 6th this year which is a Thursday. I generally try to avoid the full moon but not looking possible this year.

I have Friday's off right now (4-10's). If I can continue this schedule I probably won't take any vacation days because I will have 3 days a week (Sunday in Ohio) to hunt plus the occassional evening at a spot not far from work.

Normally however I do best early in Pa before the public land deer get over pressured. By the rut they are very hard to hunt. So I often take time off early.

Looking like mine will be the 7th through the 16th in November. At least the moon will be waning throughout it. I've never had good luck hunting the full moon, always bumping them on the way in and little movement all day.

I've never used vacation time for deer hunting... I may take a few days off this year for the rut.

Last few years I've taken 3-4 days off to hunt the 1st week in Nov. 2-3 days in the 2nd week, and 3-4 in the 3rd week. This year I will probably just take time when the cameras heat up and put my time in to try and kill a particular deer. Rut is hard to kill a particular buck but if he's still in the area, I want to be there!

August 27th through September 7th for Elk.

I never take vacation for deer. But I only work 1/2 the month so I get plenty of time off.

Would it be better to hunt the week up to Nov 6 then? Less full moon?

Not sure, activity generally pics up Halloween on and my best action is usually the two weeks before shotgun season here.

Halloween falls on a Friday which is a normal day off, so I'll have that 3 day weekend and miss 4 days in the woods and then 10 straight off. Then give me 4 days to rest up before shotgun season should I get a tag.

My only fear is starting out with a full moon and getting discouraged early on. Other than that it's when I normally take it every year sans the moon.

I take off the first day of season every year, and every Thursday & Friday starting the last week in October thru all of November. That is nine days vacation plus two free days of Thur & Fri days over thanksgiving.

Gives me 4 days of hunting for 5 weeks in a row during prime time..

I have found that for me after 4 hard days of hunting I'm ready to go back to work and rest up! :)

I like that. And if you miss the time you want to hunt well there is always next weekend.

I usually only take vacation during deer season for out of state hunts but my work schedule allows me a lot of time to hunt and my stands are all with in 2-15 miles of the house .

As of right now I'm scheduled to be on vacation from Oct. 28th thru Nov 23rd. I may change that though, I get a little burned out by the end, and find myself just kind of going through the motions towards the end of my vacation.

I use to take that many days in a row off.. Now 4 days straight days of hunting is all I want for the very reason you mentioned...

In my neck of the woods, the moon phase does not seem to matter....between Nov 6th-14th, and in particular Nov 7th-10th.....that is the peak.
