After reading another thread I thought it would be interesting to see what everyone on here considered a BIG buck? No wrong answer's just thought this would be a good subject to discuss.

I chose 140+ but that is a generic answer. Other factors can make that number lower or higher. It's a look thing for me not a score thing.

140+ for me. Where I hunt anything bigger than that would be unbelievable.

Shooter is different than "Big" and subjective to certain deer and age, but when I think "big" bucks, I think 150+

To me a BIG buck is 140 and over. This season my "shooter" limit is 120

100-120 is a big buck, 130 plus is a freak of nature for where I hunt...

Yes I have. This year I would really like to put a doe down then hold out for a decent buck

Good luck this season. I know a lot of young hunters see all of these big bucks being killed and guys holding out for big bucks and kids think they have to do that too. Trust me most of them killed a pile of little ones while learning how to kill big bucks. Some times I think kids these days are missing out on that.

Thanks, I see where you're coming from I just have shot a buck already and don't want to keep shooting yearlings. Figured if I want meat I'll shoot does. Only reason I want a buck more than a doe is the added challenge in killing a mature buck.

I try and hunt a couple places a year between Minnesota, Kansas, Iowa, Wisconsin and North Dakota and I would have a different answer for some of them. North Dakota where I hunted I would say 130-140, My lease in Minnesota, Buffalo County Wisconsin and Kansas I would say 150" but I would say over 160" for Iowa.

That just it... we get a tough winter and you will see most mature bucks scoring poorer then when they come off a mild winter. It can be quite a difference of 10 or more inches.

This is what I consider a big buck and this is actually my #1 hit lister this year. Here is his shed set from this fall. He broke a tine and is starting a little kicker off his base. I put a ruler in there for scale but never scored him since I don't know spread. Any opinions would be appreciated.[IMG][IMG][IMG]

I'd say maybe 120/130+ as big, I'd take smaller and nothing against them. That's just about where I'd change my wording when referring to from nice or good size to big.

My personal "shooter" limit is also 120". A big buck to me is anything over 150" which is a rarity on the public lands I hunt, but they are around.

My minimum for getting a shoulder mount is anything larger than my previous highest "scoring" buck otherwise I would be living in a van down by the river.
